I don't have easy access to the figures, but don't get the impression the percentages of cabinet ministers and junior ministers who were women were lower than the overall percentages of women who were elected in these parties. So there doesn't seem to have been any discrimination against women, from what I see. So a bit disappointing that the Irish Times would highlight this.
    Some critical comments now up:
“What is more striking – and worrying – is the failure to have a greater gender balance at both senior and junior levels.”
More baloney from the Irish Times which must be one of the most tediously “woke” media organs on the planet. Women make up about 22% of TDs so their representation on cabinet is proportional or better. There were hysterical demands from Women for Election for a 50:50 balance; this from a group which receives substantial state funding for jobs for the girls. Nine out of the Taoiseach’s 11 nominees were women. This has caused Regina Doherty to remark that women have a big advantage today in politics and many worthy male candidates are now passed over routinely in the shareout of jobs.
"failure to have a greater gender balance"
It's not for nothing that it is called 'jobs for the boys'.
Giving jobs to people based on anything but qualification and ability is nothing more then corruption. Benefit in kind type bribery.
That it is fully accepted here and openly commented on in the editorial of the 'paper of record', without as much as a blush, is a mark of just how undermined our 'democracy' has become.
"The Minister for Children has no children, the Minister for Education never graduated, the Minister for Health is an Engineer and the Minister for Transport hates the internal combustion engine.'
And we all wonder why the country is in a state of chassis.
Regarding the gender balance issue, does the amount of women in Ministerial and junior positions not reflect the amount of women TDs elected to the Dail?
When more women get elected, they will get more Ministerial posts. Simple as.

    Should be no quotas.
    Should be no gender/sex balance

Best person for the job always.

If that happens to be all men or all women so be it.

Eamon Ryan missed chance to promote women, says Catherine Martin
Green Party deputy leader says leader could have united party with Minister selection

    [..]

“As a female politician and someone who set up the caucus and I set up our own green group Mná Glasa, I would always seek to promote women in our party, but having said that all Green Party Ministers who are there are good for the job, and I respect the decision.”

Ms Martin said that wherever there are women who have proven they are ready and able, they should be promoted.

“We should always seek to promote because young girls cannot aim to be what they cannot see. We should always be seeking to do that, to promote women.”

The shock election of Catherine Connolly as the Dáil’s Leas Ceann Comhairle last night sparked anger in Fine Gael after Government TDs rebelled in the secret ballot.
    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/politics/fine-gael-anger-after-shock-dail-defeat-for-government-39393413.html

As she sought votes she said: "In 101 years, there has never been a female in the chair, either as Ceann Comhairle or as Leas-Cheann Comhairle."

Ms Connolly argued that due to the visibility of the job it's important that there was gender equality.
If you get a job partly because of your gender is that really gender equality.

Given that there are are probably more males with appropriate experience than females, one might argue this is biased:
Today, EU President Ursula von der Leyen called on the Irish government to present two names, one male and one female, as candidates to replace Phil Hogan as EU Commissioner.

And one might argue if there more white people with appropriate experience than non-white people should one be a non-white man on woman.

And same for working class should one of the 2 be working class?

Feminism always focuses on privileged white females. It's just about white women networking with each other acting just like they accuse the men. White feminists never fight to eradicate their own unearned privileges which is why it's a farce of a movement. (Ironically feminism is the patriarchy in terms of race and social class.)

Donald Trump vows to nominate a woman to fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s vacant seat
And, after conducting what he joked was a “very scientific poll” of the Fayetteville crowd as to whether supporters wanted a man or a woman, he declared the choice would be “a very talented, very brilliant woman”.

Equality of opportunity not of outcome!

When quotas start being implemented the floodgates will well and truly be opened. There’s no turning back then. Next it’s the ethnic minorities who want a quota in the workplace (arguably already do), then it’s the trans, disabled, etc. There is no end to appeasing the “oppressed”. The issue is, how do you account for all these groups? What weighting do you give them? There’s no end to it. The solution is to give all people the opportunity to obtain employment in such roles.

Jordan Peterson speaks a lot about this and he has a few videos online discussing how this whole area has failed miserably in the Scandinavian states.

Actually, the implementation of quotas will be a great step forwards for equality, because it will show just how stupid the whole idea is. As more quotas come into play, the feminists will scream because women are no longer the focus. Feminists will raise the stupidity and unfairness of quotas all by themselves, and it'll be relatively easy to draw attention to the irony of the situation.

Also quotas based on gender are obviously sexist. It's only a matter of time before people get tired of pretending that it isn't. As each movement happens, feminists move away from the illusion of equality, and show that women already have a very well established position in society and employment. Feminists are simply like the unions... they did great things when society was unfair, but once society became fair, each new initiative/complaint showed up their need to be seen to be doing something. Anything. To promote women's rights beyond actual equality.

So... nope. While I was initially against quotas, I'm 100% behind them now.. if only because feminists will do what Male rights groups can't do. They'll get society to notice the unfairness that has developed through the pursuit of women's rights.

I know of no political party that has a bar on women joining.

I wonder what the reaction would be to an all-male group?

    Can you imagine lol

Why do these type of people act like men are out here planning on sabotaging women in the workplace, it doesn't happen. Men don't give a sh!t who works with them so long as everyone is pulling their weight. In fact we prefer a mixed work team. In all honesty men are getting it the worst in recent years. I've seen plenty promotions and new hires going to underqualified women just because... And we have had fantastic women in top roles also so no problem there. The problem rises when we select people for jobs based soley on gender or race to balance out the workplace, is this not in fact sexism/racism, choosing these people based solely on race or gender. A hypocritical bunch indeed.

Biden announces all-female senior press team
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55126167

Has there been much/any criticism of this?
Mr Biden has promised to build a diverse administration that reflects the country.

"I am proud to announce today the first senior White House communications team comprised entirely of women," Mr Biden said in a statement.[/B]It isn't very diverse in terms of gender.
As I have highlighted before, gender balance tends to be mentioned if there are a lower percentage of females than males, but somehow all or mostly female often doesn't seem to be a problem.

Another politician who publicly calls herself a feminist:
    Holly Cairns TD
    @HollyCairnsTD
West Cork TD. Social Democrat. Spokesperson for Agriculture and Disability. Seed producer - Brown Envelope Seeds. Farmer. Scientist. Feminist. Seedling
    https://twitter.com/HollyCairnsTD

I imagine if a politician called themselves a men's right activist or some similar term, they would be criticised for doing so and criticised for being partisan.

He's a prime example to the world we now live it. As a woman she can say anything she likes, there's been many examples, yet if someone calls her up on it she'll play the sexism card or she's being bullied etc
