We organised a gathering around a fairly niche theme ( Commodore computers ) and had about 20 people turn up. Here's a 90 second clip from 2016

If you're into that kind of thing, all you need is to gather a few people either from IRL or online and find a community center, museum or even a pub near you to give you some space to host it. If we can pull it off in Athlone, you can almost definitely do it in your area. There are some large events on that have it all, but sometimes narrowing it down a bit can be just as much fun and a bit more intimate. Made friends for life this way.

We have this thing here called "Beers" where we get together, spend an awful lot of it talking and eating and maybe, just maybe, watch someone play a very bad game for hours, we migth watch a member here make a fool of himself despite his "skillz" or see another show how DDR and twerking belong together.
But it's been a little while now since we met, it has to be said, due to frakking Covid!

Are these the famous Boards Beers? I didn't know ye had gaming at them. Nice!

A lot of us end up chatting too so having a big screen or projector makes it easier for those of us that are happier being spectators to watch the "talent" at work.

We fired up a pair of projectors, aimed them at the back of my house and networked a pair of GameCubes, along with two copies of Mario Kart DD, eight people charging around Rainbow Road, many falling off a lot, and that bloody "I'm Daisy" sound bite going none stop!
Great evening on a bizarrely cold summer night six years ago now.

That sounds hilarious. We have a game called Skidmarks and when we go to 8 players, it's as good laughing at the mayhem as it is to play. I never took any photos but thankfully others did. Good memories :)

I loved Skidmarks on the Amiga, not so much on my jocks though

    .

No. Boards beers were different. I don't know if they still go on but they were drinking sessions.

I've only been to 3 retro sessions, but they are completely different to boards beers.

Usually looking at someone's collection and everyone trying some quirky game on a quirky set up. Some bring kit too. That was what I saw anyway limited to 3 sessions. Good fun. Better than boards beers for me anyway, I was never really a fan of same, but could see the attraction for others.
