Hi not sure if this is the rights place to ask this, I have atigmatism in both eyes, by general standards it is quiet mild and I can see without my glasses but my vision is much clearer with them. I got monthly contacts a while back but find that I can't wear them to work as I sit at a laptop all day long and them become uncomfortable after a couple of hours. Does anyone else have this problem and does anyone have any advice?

I was -5 R -7 L and wore contacts for years. However I then contacted cataaracts, in my forties. Got the implants and have now almost perfect eysight in right eye. Left is still a bit dodgy. The joy of not havin to wear contacts is great. Just need glasses for reading now.

Advice I was given: when staring at somethng.. like a computer screen... we tend to blink less, so maybe make an effort to blink more & keep the lenses moist with tears. You could also put in some saline eyedrops if they get dry.

My opthal. told me that they get sore & eyes red because as the lenses get dry they contract and pinch your eyeball a bit.

-8 in both eyes. Thank god for high index glass.

+1 on that, I'm about the same, jam jar bottoms if I had regular glass lenses:p

I always had perfect vision until last year when I couldn't read anything up close. Now I have to keep any thing I read half an arms length away. I have perfect vision otherwise and I don't need glasses. I know someone with the same problem and he said that eventually his arms were too short and he has very bad vision now.

Just got an eye test done today as I noticed that my vision has deteriorated a lot lately..

    Left: -1.75
    Right: -0.75

Not as bad as I feared!

I have no idea of the numeric description, but I'm not too bad. I could struggle through the day without my glasses, but it'd be a blurry experience!

like one of the earlier posters said, can walk around without bumping into stuff, but everthing still alot clearer with them on

    left -2.5
    right -2.25

was -1.75 for bout 9 to 10 years, then changed couple of times in last 3 to 4

glasses for work/day to day stuff, contacts for socialising/sport
Pretty much the same myself except:

    Left -7.0
Right -7.5 or something similar to that effect on prescription. Glasses for a rest day, contacts (dailies) for other days or sports/socialising. And i've got Astigmatism :(

Sucks having bad eyesight but walking around i can avoid people/cars and whatnot, but as for reading stuff? good luck lol:D

 master of nothing are you sure your prescription is -7.5:confused: I'm not much worse than that and I can't go to the bathroom without my glasses. God forbid if I forget where I've put my glasses:p

Honestly even my hand is a blur without even putting it out at arms length!

the thought of venturing outside without them...//shudders//

I was -7 prior to laser surgery and the only place I felt safe without glasses or contacts was from my bed to my ensuite - after that things were hit and miss!

I could sit on the couch beside someone and not be sure who there were - plus I'd perch a book just under my nose for reading in bed!

    L -7.5
    R -3.5

Don't know exactly but my eyes were measured 2 months ago and my vision is nice and clear again, no surprise after 6 years. I'm sticking to glasses, couldn't bere having something directly on my eye. I don't have to wear them for reading but after 22 years i'm so used to wearing my glasses all day that i can hardly read without them.

It's not really a case of how 'bad' your eyes are. It's more to do with the shape so I wouldn't use the word bad. Having said that I'm a -4 and -5 so I'm a bit f***ed without my contacts/glasses. :pac:

    L: -8.5
    R: -9

Can't get my right eye perfect with glasses ether so my distance vision is fecked. Even with my glasses when at the bus stop have to wait till the bus is nearly ontop of me before i can read it :(.

Hence why im working in the IT sector now :).

I want to get laser but they don't fix anything over -7 from what i heared.

Dont know about my glasses but my lenses are:

    L -3.25
    R -3.75

Wear the glasses all the time except when Im going out when I wear the contacts (not really for asthetics but because I've broke my glasses the last twice I wore them in a nightclub! :o)

    -4.5 in both eyes.
Wearing glasses about 24 years and contacts about 15 years.
Eyesight has improved slightly and I'm now back down to -4.25 in both eyes.
Damned if I can tell the difference though :D

    How bad is your eyesight?

I have to wear glasses every waking moment of the day, from the moment I get up, to the moment I lay my head down. I can't read or watch tv without my glasses. I couldn't even catch a bus:)

Get laser treatment - it works a treat

  • Registered Users Posts: 528 ✭✭✭ayapatrick

ok so this is me -
    (r) +1.00/+3.00 k20
    (L) +1.00/+3.00 k145
so id say im long sighted from what i read previously, -(minus) denotes short sight?
and also why are they wrote like fractions? would that be a 1/3 (third) of a unit? and the ks are different shape lens?

I was reading a thread about the Wellington clinic and one chap was -10 and they were still able to correct it. As far as I know up to -14 is possible, but complications are more frequent with higher prescriptions

Just managed to read this lol, looking at most recent exam now (nov 08) it reads: r -6.25, l -6.75 so i was mistaken about my original statement, still with the contacts in i can now see the number on a bus further away than lots of friends:) if i can find myself some work in the next year, i'll save for the surgery if i am suitable:D

It's poor man, sorry to be blunt
You mentioned in another post that you can't laser eye surgury over -7. I don't know if that true but realy I wouldn't take the advise here as fact, go for a FREE consulation at any clinic, most give the first visit free and realy go to more then one.

    All I can say is I went from -6.25 & -4.5 to 0.25 & 0.0 with Lasek so check it out. :)
