    I don't understand the 9ers.

Though suspect there is a large part of it that is Shanahan adapting to missing about a million players.

The million players missing has been the problem. The 2 surprising losses were with a backup QB in and the other when the Dolphins bullied the 8th string CB and the run based scheme cant play from that far behind.

The offense is getting closer to healthy at this point (fingers crossed for Deebo & Wilson) and they've switched up their defense completely after loosing all their pass rush.

Certainly a few less known people out there but they put together a great game on both sides of the ball.

Jimmy was solid I thought. His second interception was of no consequence and pure shot for the sake of it.

Got a tough run coming up though. Can't see us beating Seattle at the moment.

So, are the Niners for real & that good or are NE total crap! Seriously the niners of the past two weeks are where the team should have been all season, regardless of injury. Everyone on that field played lights out.
Next week, we can win that. The team always shows up for the Seattle games, always plays the best against them. Wont be easy & they cant mess up on any side of the ball. But it will take 35+ points to win it....like Arizona did.
The tough run began last week...2-0 so far. 1 week at a time.

I think it's a little bit of both. The 49ers aren't as good as they looked last night,, but its also not 100% down to the Patriots being bad either.

Shanahan is doing his best to hide or protect Garoppolo and for the last 2 games he's been able to do that. A lot of runs, very short passes etc. Not really been in a position of needing to have Garoppolo drop back and pass.

The good news is that Seattle are very poor defensively, especially with Jamal Adams out and the 49ers offense, particularly the offensive line should be able to generate some offense and put up a good score.

The bad news is that Wilson is playing the best of any QB in the league and the Seattle receivers are top notch.

It will be interesting to see how they get on but you expect it to be close and and come down to a few plays that will decide the games.

Upcoming games will be crucial, Seattle, Green Bay and New Orleans. The Saints might be the most important as the last Wildcard spot may come down to the Saints and the 3rd place team in the NFC West.

That's assuming Green Bay and Chicago will both have enough wins at the end of the season to make the playoffs. The divisional games will also be crucial. I think the 49ers still have a good shot at the post season, but probably need to win 2 of the next 3, get to the bye at 6-4.

Then hopefully finish out 4-2 (games against Rams, Cardinals, Seahawks, Bills, Dallas and Washington). It possible but a pretty tall order.

Oh man...that was Miami-esque play last night. Right from the start the offence was just flat as a pancake. Bay Area is going all in now on Jimmy...stay or go. Even guys who were behind him are now wobbling...that includes myself! Does he go on IR, then comeback for the last part of the season, or do we see him Thursday. I don't think he can play Thursday. I also think Green Bay are going to want revenge for last years two games. Not going to be pretty.

Yeah, it was bad but you'd have to say probably injury related. I actually think Green Bay will suit us a bit better.

Seattle defense is bad against the pass but solid against the run, at the moment we really need to be able to run the ball to get anything going, if we can't do that we can't win.

Green Bay are a bit softer against the run but at the moment you have to ask who is going to run the ball effectively? We are down Mostert, Coleman, Wilson. McKinnon looks finished. Hasty looks ok at best as long as he can hang on to the ball.

I think they need to sit Garoppolo until after the bye. if they could beat either Green Bay or Seattle behind a strong run game then they could make a run in the last 6 games. Not too likely but you never know.

Jimmy is nota bad QB, but when he can't throw properly or move around in the pocket things aren't going to end well.

Traded away Kwon to the Saints. They really needed that cap space and he was arguably the 3rd best LB at this stage (when he wasn't injured).

Interested to see what they get for him seeing as how bad that contract was, presumably a later round. Glad they didn't do their usual thing of sticking with a guy they made a mistake with signing.

Conditional 5th and Kiko Alonso (who has an expiring contract). Not expecting anything from Alonso but we need a body there

Would take that though how much the saving is doesn't seem as clear due to his restructure.

Its looking like not our year. Kwon was expensive and injury prone but we didnt get an upgrade thats for sure. Conditional fifth, well if its Kittle 2.0 then yeah but I wont hold my breath.

Its eseentially a salary dump for next year

I read that they had so little cap space they couldn't activate Kevin White from the practice squad for the game and stay under the cap so hopefully it addresses problems like this.

Greenlaw isn't much of a downgrade as a starter either but they lose a little depth.

The additional draft pick is welcome, they have a fair few picks now. I think they are really feeling the effects of not having any picks in rounds 2-4 this year as they are lacking depth in a lot of positions.

Kittle and Jimmy done for several weeks, if not the season. Such a downer from what we had coming into the year with. People can talk about 'super bowl hangover' but this season was just an unmitigated injury disaster, having gone through a lot of injuries last year even to make it to the super bowl.

From the sound of things Jimmy has been playing through more than they let on. Even though it might be the right decision it'll be hard to move on if we barely saw him play this season.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they become sellers and trade some more players. Move on some guys on the last year of their deal and not looking like they'll be renewed and get whatever they can.

    :(

Seriously what is going on with the injuries?
They'll need to keep Garoppolo around next season as they don't have any better options. I just hope they can bring someone in to complete for the starting job, I'm just not sure who that might be at this point.

Maybe they draft another QB this season?

Anyway, hard to imagine much for the rest of the season. Hopefully they don't collapse completely and win a few games.

They really set the team up to be competitive this year they have a lot of players with expiring contracts so it may be difficult next season too.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,207 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

I know I follow them and so will be more aware of their injuries, but the last 3/4 years seem to have been an absolute ****show on the injury front for the 9ers. Or is it just my imagination?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 16,093 Mod ✭✭✭✭adrian522

Yeah, and they already sacked all the conditioning trainers so that isn't really an option now. Some teams always seem to be injured. The eagles are the same.

  • Registered Users Posts: 310 ✭✭myate

On Kwon trade, Alonso is on IR with an ACL!! Chances of seeing him in a Niners uniform are slim!
Kittle is a disaster for the team, on & off the field. Jordan Reed probably isn’t ready to comeback yet. No point doing a Coleman on him too.
Jimmy apparently told SI he still wasn’t right only last week! Just roll with Mullens now & for the rest of the year. I think its March before the decision on Jimmy needs to be made. Right now theres no other options there anyway that are better! So that leaves the draft & theres a bunch of teams needing a qb next year. Other option is Aaron Rodgers but not until 2022 I think.
Theres a lot to weigh up for Lynch & Coach!
One thing that should be immediate should be the replacement of the strength & conditioning coach.

Good riddance! His first year he showed potential. Next year when he showed up to camp out of shape...wtf! Waste of roster space ever since. If he wasn't a 2nd rounder I mightn't be so harsh, but he was! Compare him with Jalen Hurd, a 3rd rounder...can't stay healthy unfortunately but if he can next year, he'll be another Deebo/Ayuik.

That was pretty much a disaster as expected with no offence really. Nothing more to say! Only positive is we can't loose this Sunday!!

How bad are our injuries...turns out River Cracraft is game time decision! This Saints game ain't gonna be fun.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 16,093 Mod ✭✭✭✭adrian522

I don't think the success of the team is going to sink or swim (sorry :0) on the health of River Cracraft!

  • Registered Users Posts: 310 ✭✭myate

Totally...even though he is game time decision, lots of sarcasm in there!! On a plus, plenty of guys should be back after the bye. But we loose a couple more, it's 100% all in on the draft decisions!!!

Read an article about the pros and cons of bringing kaep back to finish the season.

Would it be worth a last roll of the dice on him? Or do we just keep rotating Mullins and cj to end out the season? I would bring kaep back just for the fun of it, see if he has anything left in the tank

Right, I'm going to bed. I can't take another James fumble

After seeing the news of the extra guys going on IR/COVID list, I took a check of spotrac and the team is up to $99 million of Cap on players on IR/PUP/COVID, compared to $88 million of cap on players that are available.

Apparently a few guys are hopefully coming back for the Rams game so we might not break that $100 million number. I however wouldn't be surprised if guys injury themselves during their time off

Anyone know any Irish websites that might sell 49ers gear? Just want a hoodie or something like that.

Mke or break game tonight I think. Go 4 and 7 in this group and we are done. Thankfully with Mostert and Wilson back we can implement a run game again elbeit against a team thats usually good against the run. Dont expect to see Sherman much

And thats pretty much a wrap for 2020! When I said I was going to a playoff game last year, I considered waiting until this year, but ultimately went to the divisional round as it's never certain when a team will get back there...how true was that!
So many issues to sort now, contracts, draft. Huge off season coming up. The bones are there in the team, even with all the injuries the D has been solid enough. Secondary needs massive upgrade, but has done for the last few drafts yet no CB has been chosen. OL needs upgrading too, bring back Joe Staley to at least help coach as he says he'd like to do this and McGlinchey is certainly missing his buddy.
Finally, QB! Who knows what happens here. If Jimmys contract can be reworked, I'm fine with him staying another year. That bring Rodgers more into the equation for 2022 anyway (unless GB totally implodes in the playoffs & he decides he wants out now...dreaming!). If the contract is stuck, as much as I like Jimmy, I'd be happy changing to Stafford if we could get him. Do Jimmy a favour and offer him to Pats. The one stat that showed up last week was when we're behind by 7+ at half time, we've never won under Shanahan! Stafford is a comeback specialist. Just don't see Lynch drafting a QB first round unless somehow we trade up and thats gonna cost a lot & might not even be a possibility.
Oh and we might need a new DC and whoever he takes with him!!
