Top gun Drogheda is a great place for all your tackle needs in Drogheda.
Great little shop and the owner is bang on!
He now supplies fox pike range and all deadbaits.
Well worth a pop in if fishing in the north east.;)

I can second that and tell you that 'Vesty loves his fishing and shooting. He's one of us who's packed in the building sites and opened up a tackle shop - livin the dream :)

In Ballina Gary in the Ridge Pool tackle shop is a hell of a nice chap too, prices are a bit touristy due to location but he'll always knock a few bob off

They will be the only stockist in ireland for Ultimate, badger, viper and will of course stock the usual product's from Fox, Maver, Shimano,Abu,Mitchell,Vison,Waterline,Preston, Okuma, Prologic, I RANGE, Sixth sense, Sonubaits, Korum, Trabucco, to name but a few.

Well worth giving them a short of dead bait's or magott's also, as they use Maize meal for storing the maggott's so when you ask for a pint of maggott's you get a full pint...

they've got a huge catchment area going on there, most of the northside, west dublin, north county.
but they need to get a cheap website up and running, get all that stock on google.

if i were them i'd contact radio nova and see if they can get a cheap ad going, that radio station rocks and is ideal for them.

i really hope this is a success.
but there's no excuse for not having a website no matter how cheap it looks, the point is to get onto google. if they're in league with irelandscoarsefishing then they ought to shovel all their stock on there repeatedly.

Stumbled across a new angling shop with a lot of character. It's a shoe repair shop on Lloyd's Lane in Athlone. These dusty old places are like jewels to me, they feed my soul. So you stumble out of the shop and find yourself next to the magnificent Shannon. And on the other side of the river is a stunning Norman castle.

This is why I love Ireland, every damp field and mouldy ditch is covered in a thousand years of history.

Stepping into these old shops, like the DIY shop in Durrus that sells reels or the bait shop in Irishtown, the shops in Courtmacsherry, Skibb and Clon and Waterville, is like stepping into movie sets of Ireland before the nonsense of the property speculation madness.

This week I have to visit that ABC shop in the smithfields markets.

I wonder if someone more talented on the interweb than I could put together a google map of all thses little places? The smaller the shop the better!

Edit: i think i might get the ball rolling on that map this week but if someone else wants to start it, go right ahead.

Well, finally made it into ABC fishing tackle in Smithfield and what a fine gentleman Mr. Prosser is!

He told me a great story that when he was a boy he was evacuated from London thanks to Mr. Hitler's Blitzkrieg tactics and sent to a farm in Kent. And each morning on his way to school he had to escort captured Luftwaffe pilots to their work and in the evening collect them and return them to their camp.

What a great story. Dr. David Whittren who taught me how to flyfish on the Boyne was a Canadian Battle of Britain pilot and is still going strong. So there's two elderly men, that I've met because of fishing, who lived through one of the most interesting historical period of any time.

The picture enclosed is of the grand owner who has supported Irish anglers for 66 years with his business minded grandson.

Fantastic I will. I live on the north side and am not a big fan of Henry's or travelling all the way over to South side angling so am delighted there is a shop open in my neck of the woods.

How is business going?? Where is your website??

Well seen as Tipp didn't get a mention heres a few,

    Premier Marine

This is a gem of a shop tucked away on the old Dublin/Cork road in the village of Littleton. Willie has a great stock of gear at very reasonable prices. He can also sell you a boat to use it on! Take the Horse and Jockey exit off the motorway and it's just a mile back the road, worth a halfway stop on a long journey highly recommended.

    T J's Angling Centre
    Ballina/Killaloe
Years on the go, if your going to Lough Derg you stop here first! Also gives great advice on the lake and boat hire.

    Open Season
    Nenagh
Never been but met owner at the Game Fair and couldn't have been nicer definately going to pop in this weekend. Very good game/flyfishing stock.

    Clonanav & Fishunt

Lumping these together, two Top specialist flyfishing shops and guides on the Suir, Tar and Blackwater near Clonmel. Game specialists can be pricey but as I said best of gear.

    Kavanaghs sports shop
    Clonmel

Years on the go also and a wide selection of gear and good service.

Was just in Woodies in Cork (probably applies to all of them) and see they have a decent amount of fishing gear. A lot of terminal tackle for sea fishing - hooks, feathers, lures. Could be handy if you were stuck tho as they are open 7 days a week and late nights.

I'm surprised not to see any mention of a small shop in Lucan, simply called Fishing & Shooting (or vice versa, I can't remember) It's easy to miss, but it's beside the motorbike shop on the road into Lucan village about 200 metres from Woodies. Ballydowd is the address in the phone book.

I went in today and was met by a very pleasant gentleman who was generous with his advice. A good experience, even if my nose was assaulted as I opened the door as I entered. Though I'm going to assume that's a common thing in fishing tackle shops.

That fishing gear as mentioned above by Seafields is not in the Woodies in Lucan.

  • Registered Users Posts: 569 ✭✭✭bayliner

there IS gear in woodies in athlone, picked up 1 or 2 bits there on sat last, lures are rubbish but cheap, some other interesting bits though:)
always like an auld smooch tru new tackle:D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,048 ✭✭✭thehamo

Well i went in to fishing and hunting in Lucan. Never felt so unwelcome anywhere in my life. I felt as if I was doing something wrong having a look around and no one willing to have a chat just asked what do I want all the time. Safe to say I will never be back there regardless

Was in Halpins, Listowel on the weekend, service was superb. Was replacing a broken rod, at the same time he fixed the broken one (one eye less, good for Mackerel) for no charge. Not the best prices but he's always willing to do a deal as he did with me.
    Will get my custom again.

fishing and hunting in Lucan. Just down the road from Woodies towards the village

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭Doc Farrell

turns out tackleirelanddirect.ie is owned by the chap who runs a great shop from behind his house in Halfway which is a village halfway between Bandon and Cork.

was down there last weekend and got a few sea fishing thingies, great prices but more than that, a real thrill when you're on your way to Rosscarbery to chase the fishies!

We had a fantastic day so I had to go up to Anglers Paradise in finglas and buy two whips and all the bits and bobs.
Thanks to the chap in Anglers Paradise for looking after me and listening to all the noop questions and I apolgise for not geting your name.

Was just in aldi there and they have fishin gear as they usually do this time of year. While the tackle may not be the highest quality i picked up a bag which, on first impressions, seems like a grand piece of kit. Got myself nuropren gloves and a LED hat too, all for €24.
