Stompbox advice needed!

I’ve got a Shadow Stompin Bass, it’s just not doing it for me soundwise. Looking at the Roland SPD: One Kick. Need something with a better sound the the Shadow stompbox, anyone recommend a place to try these out? Went to xmusic today but they were out of stock of the roland Or any ideas for other stompboxes as well?
