yeah, but only he became available due to Gilroy stepping down

Pay no heed to all that nonsense about cynicism. Galway are the absolute masters of it. A great win and thoroughly deserved, same as in Castlebar against us. Cunnningham has got ye conditioned like the very top teams now and plenty off the bench as well. Hopefully we will se eye in the super 8's

I don't think it's Galway fans complaining about cynicism.

Gilroy stepped down in mid September around the same time McStay left Roscommon. Cunnigham was the obvious choice for Roscommon, living there managed Brigids to their first ever club title etc yet instead the Roscommon county board went searching up north for a manager and manager with a poor CV, beggars belief.

Great win for the Rossies. Tightened up the defence even from the league with no goals conceded. They have extra power up front with Cox etc and players that are not afraid to head for goal. I do feel that as the Summer goes on they will need a few more points per game but at the same time looking around the rest there is not much they need be afraid of.
As for accusations of cynicism teams like Kerry and Dublin are past masters, Mayo would have their All Ireland if they had it. I rather a cynical team over a naieve team, which Ross was often in the past, anytime.

Oh Mayo are well able to act the scut when it suits them. And waste time. And run down the clock. All the things that fall under the label of 'cynical'. That's not why they haven't won a All Ireland. Their inability to slow the game to their own pace and calmly, ruthlessly work a score in the last minutes of a close game has cost them far more imo. Roscommon did that brilliantly in the last 10 minutes yesterday & who knows where it will take them.

He was the first man approached and he said that he was interested but that he wanted to apply for the Dublin job and to keep him in mind if things didn't work out. That's why they looked elsewhere and ultimately wrapped up the appointment so quickly after Mattie Kenny was announced.

Have you got evidence of that a link perhaps? was known a long way out that Mattie Kenny would get the Dublin hurling gig while Roscommon were linked with and talked to some bizarre replacements.

Anyway a good appointment was brought in regardless of how he got there and yesterday's Connacht final and the semi final gave proof if ever needed what this Roscommon group of players can do when they are fit and well organized.

Rob Kearney (Boyle)
Enda Killoran (Elphin)
Evan Flynn (Tulsk)
Robbie Dolan (St Brigids)
Michael Conroy (Castlerea)
Niall Higgins (Elphin)
Gerry Galvin (Tulsk)
Patrick Fannon (St Josephs)
Padraig Halpin (St Barrys)
Daire Keenan (St Dominics)
Ronan Dowd (Creggs)
Thomas O'Rourke (Tulsk)
Brian Derwin (St Brigids)
Paul Carey (Padraig Pearses)
Dylan Ruane (Michael Glaveys)

A surprise to see such a lack of St Brigids starters. They won the last two Connacht club minor titles and only 2 of the Roscommon U17 All Ireland finalist team of 2017 is starting this match.

Rumours are that many of the better players don't want to play for Curran. None of the Roscommon CBS side that won All Ireland few months ago either.

If that U20 league is anything to go by this campaign will be short. Pity because with a full squad really firing Roscommon could have gone far given the success of their 2017 u17 side.
