This is one that's been wrecking my head for years - I ask every movie buff I know but nobody's been able to answer so far.
I saw it on TV back in the 1980s and I think the film was probably much older - maybe '50s or '60s. As far as I can remember it was in black and white.

The storyline is the old "car breaks down in an isolated area on a dark and stormy night" routine. The male driver goes to the only nearby dwelling to seek help/shelter. Living in the house are three elderly gentlemen. They don't have a phone (or maybe the line is down because of the storm) so there's nothing they can do except offer the driver shelter until the storm is over.

One is a retired judge and another a retired barrister, so to pass the time they propose playing a game with the driver: a mock trial. He agrees, and they first ask him to suggest an offence for which he'd like to be tried (something minor like a traffic offence), but he says he's never done anything wrong and can't think of anything for which he could be prosecuted. The gentlemen proceed with the driver in the 'dock' anyway (they're all just in the sitting room), with the retired barrister asking general questions about the driver's past actions which then become more specific as the barrister comes across events which could be misconstrued and for which the 'defendant' doesn't have a proper alibi. They end up turning it into a murder trial, and the retired judge finds him guilty. The driver still thinks it's all been a bit of fun, until the third elderly gentleman turns out to be a retired hangman who thinks the game's not quite finished yet. Just after the retired hangman's occupation has been revealed, the film ends so you're left in suspense as to the actual outcome.

The whole thing is set in a single room (castle/stately home type sitting room) so I suspect it might originally have been a play that was filmed.

It would be fantastic if someone could give me a name for this: As I said, it's been bugging me for years!
Sounds like 'Nothing But Trouble' radia? But that's from the early 90's (and in colour).
No, that's not it. It's much less modern, and just set in one room. But thanks!
Is it La più bella serata della mia vita? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069094/
Based on a play Die Panne
It's not La più bella serata della mia vita because it was definitely an English or American film. But it seems almost certain that it was a different film version of Die Panne. I must be able to pin it down with that! You're an absolute star - thank you so much!

If it was a woman, it's the TV series "The Streets of San Francisco"

There was a movie I saw years ago . It was an asian style cartoon or a manga film but on during the day for kids. It was about a kid and his father . I think the father was a farmer or workman who toiled away for the land owner .
The kid did no work but instead played with his pet deer and or other animals. the kid also had a ribbon that he played with .I think it ends up with the land owner trying to kill the kids' father but the kid sacrifices (falls on the sword) himself for his dad. and i remember a scene with the deer running to the child with the ribbon/magic ribbon to try to save him .

It must have been 25 yrs ago now and on rte or one of the old channels one afternoon .Ive googled many times to try to find it to no avail.
at this stage im starting to thing i dreamt it .
    anyone have any ideas ?

An old 50's Sci-Fi film. I just remember people from a small town going out to an area and disappearing one by one. Remember seeing lot's of shot's of the horizon and silhouettes of the people sinking down into the ground. And a little boy who try's to tell the grown ups what's going on.

A visit inside a UFO later in the film if memory serves me right.

Killers From Space is the only movie that I can think of from the 50's:

Thanks Pete. But I'm fairly sure that's not it. It could have been early 60's.

Its is set in america in the 80's or 90's, I remember a scene in which a shop owner rings 911 and a guy puts a gun to his head and he says into the phone 'that show cops, it great'.

I saw this movie years and years ago when I was very young, and I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, who starred in it, or the director. The only thing I have to go on are vague images and the basic plot.

It was a black and white movie.
About a couple who decide to sell their souls to the devil (maybe) in return they were granted eternal life. Not too stand-outish, however in the movie there souls where hung in a canvas bag from a tree outside their house, so that at some stage when they were old and wizened looking and sick of living, they could go out a retrieve the bag.

Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Sounds like Nothing to Lose with Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence?

Saw a film many years ago that started with a family in a house who woke up one morning to find it pitch black outside with no sun, moon or stars in the sky. They are unable to open the external doors or windows in the house and it gets progressively warmer as the day goes on. Eventually the ground floor of the house starts to fill with green slime and the picture then fades out and cuts to a mother reprimanding her daughter for putting her dolls house and chocolate bar in the oven! Turns out the original family were a family of dolls and the green slime was the added ingredient of the chocolate bar!

Im convinced I didnt imagine this. I destinctly remember watching it on Sky TV many years ago and it frightened the crap out of me.

Oh... I was fairly sure I'd seen that asked already in this thread, but can't find it. I've definitely seen it asked somewhere before.

All I can remember is that it was a made for TV movie.

Much obliged. Good old Hammer House of Horror!

    Another one for you

I remember a boy in a turban, holding a glass orb. It bounced across a sand dune & at every bounce, blue robed men appeared. They fought with an evil man's troops. When the villain was running away, blue robed men threw their spears, which landed around the villain - forming a cage.

I think stills from the film were used on the ELO 'Discovery' LP sleeve. Does anyone know the name of the film?

Sounds like Casino Royale (2006). That had the storyline that Bond had to foil an attempt to stop the launch of a new airliner.

Watched this a few years back so I can't really remember a whole ton about it, but it's a Korean film; starts out with an elderly guy remembering his days working at a hospital/asylum in the 40's or 50's. There was a girl who drowned whose ghost he saw in one of those.. ah crap, I forget the term.. one of those drawers that bodies go into prior to/after autopsy, and a there's a good few weird little plot twists. There's a scene with a train that's sticking out in my mind, and a forest chase scene, but at this stage I could be getting films mixed up as I watched a lot of Korean and Japanese horror/thrillers at around the same time.

The film was visually absolutely stunning, perfectly shot and constructed in every way, which is why I fell in love with it.

As far as I can remember the ending wasn't all that great.

Any help would be fantastic-- looking at you, Karl Hungus, I reckon if anyone'd know it you probably would, but I'm posting publicly just in case.
