So in other words you cannot give me a source for that 99.9% rate.

That says it all, doesn't it.

    A stupid idea.
Can't people just accept that this Christmas is going to be different in many respects and be adults and even slightly competent adults at that.

All I wanted was a credible online source for your assertion that Covid has a 99.9% survival rate. All you have given me is waffle.

How easily power can turn normal people into dictators and bullies when they think other people will break the rules, you can see how throughout history there'll always be some cnut that'll squeal on where the secret door to the attic is

Just to be absolutely clear here, they are attempting to save lives,
    not murder jews.

1.3 million dead- how do you explain that away?

I know no one who's gotten sick or died of the virus not one. Was sick back in Feburary a few weeks before the panic set in took not bad enough to miss work or seek medical treatment and I took a few weeks to shake it off lost sense of smell and taste etc so was probably covid. Usually it takes me a couple of days to shake off these types of things but this took about 2-3 weeks.

It'll save some people from making eejits of themselves at Christmas parties.

It opens up an interesting question though. Some people only go to their workplace's Christmas party because they are obliged to or it would be frowned upon to stay away. If their employers still have a party of sorts this year, will they still feel they have to go?

I haven't attended a work party especially an Xmas one in over 20 years. Simple rule is never mix business and pleasure.

most of them were 80+ and going to die anyway.

50m people die every year around the world.

Sure everyone will die someday, lets forget this whole medicine thing and not treat any illness and while we are at it lets just start culling people when they hit 70. Utter waste of resources treating old people or anyone really don't you think?

    Never said any of that.

But calling out the 1.3m deaths is sensationalist tabloid trash.

You should be calling out the extra COVID deaths this year.

From another thread - additional deaths are down 0.2% in Ireland in 2021 - so less old people died this year than last year.

This disease does not impact 95%+ of the worlds population and alot more people are going to die from non COVID illness due to the excessive lockdowns and restrictions in health services.

So the whole thing is a cod, and the entire world has been taken in by it, and we should just open up and see what happens (presumably nothing)?

    Right so.

This is such braindead thinking to try to reduce everything down to "well, it's all or nothing". Why not actually engage with the post and the claims it makes instead of throwing your toys out of the pram?

That poster is the one who said the deaths were mostly people aged 80+ and going to die anyway. If that's not reductive, I dont know what is.

Deaths have been kept down because of restrictions, not in spite of them.

Try asking the USA how they're getting on with their laissez faire policies, maybe?

Could one have a Christmas party for all staff under 50 ?
The restaurants should be reopening next week , nice meal , bottle of wine would be a great treat for employees that arent that vulnerable ?

And then they'll isolate for two weeks in case they've been infected and might put any elderly or vulnerable contacts at risk?

    That's a great idea!

    Why? Both statements are factual.

    You can google them yourself.

My point is not that I don’t care / it’s that you can’t lock up 100% of the population to protect 2%. More will then die from the locking up.

We have a Christmas dinner but in work. I don't use the canteen so it will look as if I'm being anti-social at Christmas and not sure what to do.

So be anti-social. Why do you care what anyone else thinks?

Just because you work with someone doesn't mean you're obliged to socialise with them, especially not during a bloody pandemic.

I haven't been to a work cringe-mas party in over 20 years and make no apology for it.

There was no panic back in Febuary do you remember? It's only looking back on it now I think it was probably covid 19. I'm fully right in the head mate thank you.

I do remember and while the virus had not fully impacted the country in February even at that stage the public health advice for anyone who suspected they might have symptoms of the virus was to self isolate and seek medical advice. As you stated yourself you didn`t do that and continued to work presumably in close contact with others. Correct?

I didn't know what it was back then looking back thought it was just a bog standard cold at the time looking back on it now I'm nearly sure it was the virus. Know some who said they had similar back in December before the virus was even considered a thing

The decision of whether or not to have a Christmas party came up at work yesterday with speculation that the restaurants are likely to reopen. I’m in a slightly different situation to the op. I am the owner of a health Clinic, considering what is going on, my opinion when discussing with senior staff yesterday was that it should not go ahead, this did not go down well. The staff organise the Christmas party, pick the venue etc, I pick up the tab for the night and usually everyone attends because we carefully select staff who get on very well with one another. Typically we have it the Friday night before Christmas, yesterday the staff said that they would likely be going out that night anyway, they want to put on their glad rags (their words) and let their hair down. Fair enough, they deserve it.
