Run Paris Marathon (38,000 runners!) last year and they used smaller balloons. I think they had at least 4 or 6 pacers per group, defining the target-time area.

Maybe we should have a BB (Before Boards) and AB (After Boards) notation.
The guy I mentioned certainly gave the organisers a sharp lesson!!

IR£1200 worth of distinctive gear?! It must have been all gold tassels, and shiny sequins that could be seen for miles.

Pacers could go for the Jedward hair look.....That should make it pretty easy to see them!

IR£1200.....rtfm I said IR£200!!!

I think they got tracksuit, shoes, singlet, shorts, (presumably) socks and rain gear! Nice going if you were prepared to sacrifice your marathon to pace - and then one of the pacers ran off and did his own thing - should'a been kneecapped!

(Btw, whether or not I'd be a good pacer, I don't think I'd ever be prepared to 'sacrifice' a marathon to pace it for others, so hats off to those who are prepared to do so!)

IR£200 is still a lot of sequins and tassles.
We don't really sacrifice a marathon, as most of the pacers are on the back of a goal marathon. For quite a few of the pacers this year, that's Berlin four weeks previous to Dublin.

I agree.....Remember this was 199X, so IR£200 bought an awful lot more than €200 does now....certainly not to be sneezed at. Wasn't tempted myself - too intent on my own race.

Maybe...but, no matter what anyone says, running a marathon IS a fairly big deal. (Ok some people seem to like running marathons every other day )

However modestly you put it, imho, pacing a marathon, even off the back of a good one, is quite a committment for anyone to give.

You are right VR - least I deserve. But hey, look - you don't need my number - you'll be able to find me ... large red floppy runners, green hair, thinning ever so slightly, and critically only three fingers. Can't miss me.

Also ... without violating the broads ban on advertising - does anyone know if you can order Club Energize online anywhere. I'd like to try it before the day. I had a look around but no luck.

You can buy the club energise in any supermarket. I get it in supervalu or dunnes stores.
But yes i think its a great idea to try it before the big day. That way if you like it you are sorted on the day. I would love to have a quality drink like that in berlin.
What i will do on the day is have a bottle for the first 10km in my hand. Get a friend to hand me a bottle at 22k and another at 36k. Worked for me for last year so same again this year.
