So are we all excited for our nation's first leader's debate before a general election? Are we hoping for a respectable discussion or 12 rounds of duckin' and diving and pointing fingers?

I'm intrigued tbh, I hope it's worth 2 hours of my life.

MOD EDIT: You can watch it here: http://www.tv3.ie/election2011-like-o-meter-holding.php

M Martin has no credibility, so the show is a waste of space. Hand back the €90K, that's the only debate i'm interested in.

I can see that 90k coming up tonight.

well it should, but in fairness, it's not just martin, ahern/cowen/dempsey should all be put under pressure to give it back. But it is ridiculous to hear of politicial reform and he keeping the 90K

Whether he gives up his severance is neither here nor there - its his legal entitlement if he so wishes - more wider issues at play - if he left ala cowen and co. he could have been in receipt of even more.

Health, public sector reform and restoring Ireland's credibility abroad are a tad more pressing in the grand scheme of things

If it does Labour will have lost any vote I would have given them. Pure sniping populism.

Second that....amounts to mud slinging and serves only to detract from core issues.

I'd suggest political reform is on the agenda, well according to Martin it is, therefore this disgraceful system of payments should be brought up.
He's been making a big deal of it - time to put our money where his mouth is.

I will be watching, I am not into all that talking over one another and i also think that any inappropriate payments should be brought up,The way ff is going on you think they just appeared in the country last week.

    I know, it's incredible.
I thought they'd at least have the grace to wait about 6 months after the election to start that type of revisionist shyte.

Will they be leaving an empty chair in the studio?

Two hours is way way too long for a 2 leader debate

Even the die-hard politico junkies will be nodding off by the 90 minute mark.

This is a core issue. Where do you think the money comes from?

That's right out of my f*cking pocket.

    Kop on to yourself.

Agreed, actions speak louder than words. Put up or shut up Martin.

Mario Rosenstock did this on the politician's lump sums and pensions. It's excellent..

TV3 website are allowing viewers to vote during the show as to how they think the leaders are doing, so after all the talk about these debates being about 'policies' and giving the people a clear view of what each party is offering, we can see now that they were, after all, designed to be a spectacle and a popularity contest.

Fair play Enda for standing your ground on this one.

This is going to be car crash tv. All anyone has to say to mehole is mention the 90 grand and that he's been central to the party that destroyed the country.
Enda will be laughing in Leitrim tonight.
Tv3 seem to be turning into Fox news.

    Pity.

Gilmore will blow vacuous 90k Martin out of the water.

    Martin fluffed his opening statement.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭deelite

Michael Martin should have practiced his opening speech a bit more. And the head (puppy dog style - veering to the left and then the right) not good.
