This reached no. 30 in the Irish Singles chart in November 1985.

Don't know would he get away with some of the lyrics these days.

Wow! This is a nostalgia fest for those of us of certain years ;)

Saw many of these bands live in the early 1980s. Great to see a shout out for The Atrix and DC Nein. I noticed some time ago that the former's lead singer John Borrowman (the other one) had died, which is very sad. Shame that the latter morphed into dreadful disco wannabes Toko Olympics. Not the same at all!!

Just by way of a complete about turn, I occasionally look out for a truly dreadful song that was released in the early 1980s by a band called Lucky Numbers, called "We're so proud to be Irish" (you certainly wouldn't be after listening to that!!)

It was so hideous that it would be a strong candidate for the worst song EVER recorded by an Irish artist and might even figure strongly on a "Worst song in the world EVER" chart.

If you're old enough to remember some of these bands you're probably old enough to remember the classic TV series "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" and his passport to riches, the chain of stores called Grot which sold stuff that was only useless, tasteless or would serve as a present for someone you hated.

It is in that spirit that I should like to hear the Lucky Numbers classic (sic) if anyone knows of it

    :)

This crept into the lower reaches of the UK Singles Charts in 1985, reaching no. 89 in February 1985.

I haven't heard in more than 30 years, doesn't sound too bad at all.

Bertie's Brochures. The Fatima Mansions. How can anyone not like a song that says "Daddy, what's that blowtorch for?".

Cathal and Co. were fantastic live. Remember seeing them live in Cork, upstairs in DeLacey house and his opening track Angels Delight!

I've just found Tokyo Olympics vinyl album 'Radio' in the attic, one of my favourite Irish bands of the '80's. I'll have to go through all those rediscovered albums now...:).

I bought their album on cassette and though I loved the music the production quality of the tape was pretty poor so I never played it as much as I should have.

Gay Byrne had them on the LLS they were going to London to ...well make it.. last I ever heard of them.

    Never saw them live pity

That Petrol Emotion from Derry - Big Decision (1987)

Saw TPE in Sir Henry's in Cork back in the day and I am certain I have "Big Decision" on 7"

Would have spent hours in Leeside music on McCurtain street picking up great gems there

These guys released 4 singles before they got around to getting an album deal. The debut album went to No.1 and stayed there for 5 weeks.

They still play and are excellent live, the video is them performing nearly 20 years after the song was released

The Stunning - Romeos on Fire (1989)

Agree brilliant band live and when they would wear the hats on stage they looked even taller than they were

Again DeLacey house was a regular gig spot of theirs. Always went to see them when they played in Cork

Hugely under rated South Dublin band.

    A House - I'll always be grateful. (1988)

One of the best if not the best Irish bands, the gigs in Cork were packed either Sir Henry's or DeLacey house.

They played in O'Shea's hotel in Tramore one night bout 30 there! The gig still went ahead and it was brilliant with Dave Couse dancing with the audience.

I actually wrote to them mentioning the gig and he wrote back to me.... class

If I had to pick one album that to me is the best then it would be "Kissing the roof of heaven" by the duo, Hinterland

Donal Coughlan [RIP] and Gerry Leonard were brilliant only saw them live once and that was in The Bridge hotel in Waterford and they were terrific

A few bands that might bring back good memories:

    Sack

    Emperor of Ice Cream

    LMNO Pelican

    Into Paradise

    The Fireflies

Belfast punk band Stiff Little Fingers made the UK Charts with "At The Edge" in 1980. Here is their Top Of The Pops appearance

The Boomtown Rats' Simon Crowe & Johnny Fingers combined their talents to produce this song in 1987. Got plenty of airplay here at the time.

The femme fatale singer with The Golden Horde on "Friends in Time" wrote "A Good Heart" in 1985 when she was 19.

Today she is Mrs Jim Akin. Back then she was Maria McKee. But you probably knew all that.
