Jason and the argonauts was the film that resonated with me when I was a kid.
    It had everything.
    Gods check
    Monsters check
    Swords check
Some kind of beast made of sand check
    Epic voyages check
    A golden fleece check

And the greatest thing known to man - skeletons that grew from teeth that could fight like mofos and were incredibly tough to kill.

    What a film!

It was The Princess Bride for me. One of the greatest films ever made.

Written by the same guy who made A Bridge too Far. (Does that count as an action film? I guess it is, just not the one man army type).

    A top, top film.
I didn't want to watch it because it was Disney, but was pleasantly surprised.

    The Raid.

Agree with most of the above. Would add:

    • Rambo (Originals. Shame on you all for not adding this! :p)
    • Mad Max (Originals)
    • 300 (different to most, I enjoyed it)

For comedy factor, I for some reason really enjoyed
    • Guardians of the Galaxy
    • The Expendables.

Fúckin love the Die Hard, has everything.

    Suave Sophisticated Villain
    Powerful Dangerous Henchmen
Wise-Cracking every man hero with no shoes
    Arséhole FEDS
    Buddy Cop on the radio

And my fave, the incompetent Deputy Chief of Police:

Sergeant Al Powell: I think he's a cop. Maybe not LAPD, but he's definitely a badge.
Dwayne T. Robinson: How do you know that?
Sergeant Al Powell: A hunch, things he said. Like being able to spot a phony ID.
Dwayne T. Robinson: Jesus Christ, Powell, he could be a ****ing bartender for all we know.

+1 for Con Air and The Rock.
Con Air isn't on tv enough anymore, thankfully ITV3 and 4 show The Rock at least once a month.

I just remembered this one. It's a lot of fun although the story is pretty much non existent. The whole thing is shot first person. And I think it's about 80% action scenes.

    Cobra
    Bad Boys
    Dog Soldiers
    Taken
    Safe
    Lethal Weapon
    Assassins

    King Solomons Mines
    The Delta Force

Four pages in and no vote for Ronan?!

Great chases throughout. Worth a look if you haven't seen it.

While not all out action films Michael Mann's Heat and Collateral had some great action sequences. Robocop wasn't been mentioned yet, as well as being one of the best action films is also a fairly spot on satire on western society.

Die Hard's script is a lean masterclass in giving the audience information and making it all count.

Die Hard 1-3 obviously, the kings of all action films.
Predator is class - "if it bleeds we can kill it"
    300 is fantastic.
Ronin is a fantastic show, good spot from a poster above,

Another one is Centurion, Fassbender and a group of Romans fleeing Scotland while being pursued by a Celtic tribe.

I haven't seen Total Recall in years but that's a classic as well.

Just to add. About 90% of Jackie Chan films should be on this list.
