Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Condenser boiler smell

    Wondering if anyone can help ?
    Put on gas heating for first time this year yesterday and there is such a smell of like rotten eggs from the boiler it’s actually horrendous
    Any ideas ????

    Turn it off and have it looked at by a Registered Gas Installer.

    It could be producing deadly amounts of Carbon Monoxide. That can kill very quickly.

    hardly Carbon monoxide as it has no smell. But a bad smell in the room is not to be expected as 99% of gas boilers should be room sealed.

    When a boiler is burning incorrectly it can easily be producing CO. The smell described by the op reveals that it is burning incorrectly.

    Rotten eggs smell comes from hydrogen sulphide. Probably not directly related to combustion. There might be contamination / corrosion from sitting idle.

    It will probably clear itself but best to get it checked out.
