Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Getting tooth extracted, is it as bad as it sounds?

    Im due to get a tooth out soon.
    Is it really as horrific a process as it sounds?
    Anyone will to share experiences on the above?

    Good local anaesthetic is key
    Case selection also.. some people need sedation but for those who didn’t once they are numb they are usually fine

    I got a back tooth out was dreading it but it went fine, hate the injection, I try and picture a day at the beach or whatever brings a nice imagine to distract a little from where you really are. The tooth came out very fast a little tug

    Try not to think too much about it ( easier said than done), best of luck, you will be fine.

    I sympathise with you OP. I’m getting two out this week along with bone grafting and dreading it. I have been offered oral sedation. Anyone any experience with that form of sedation?

    I got one out a couple of months ago , was10 minutes in total getting it removed and a filling . No pain at all during it and a small bit after but was fine

    Little or no pain, it's more the actual physical action of removing it and visualising what's going on that gets you, you will be anticipating a rush of pain that won't come.

    I got two out with bone grafting recently. I was iv sedated. Surgery went totally fine so nothing to worry about there, especially with the sedation -happy days! Make sure you allow for bed rest, moderate pain management and recovery days after. Nothing too crazy but your body will still need to rest to heal. Make sure you follow your cleaning instructions to a T!

    Generally it’s a fairly straight forward procedure.
    Dentistry has come a long way from the horror stories of the past, young modern dentists and modern medications make the process much more friendly and manageable.

    As with any procedure there are occasional complications, be that a tooth that has a hook root, disintegrates during extraction or even a dry socket afterwards. But even these are made easier with the modern run of dentists.

    I’d say relax. It will be ok.

    I’ve had a bad run with my own teeth and have had a few extractions in my time. Even difficult procedures are manageable.
