    Welcome to the Economics forum.

    General
This is the Economics forum, for the discussion of topics relating to economic theory; academic economic courses; economic events and/or current economic affairs. This is not a personal finance forum. Quoted sources should be referenced if requested. This charter is a guideline of the rules and is not all inclusive.

Plagiarism of economics papers from any website (including those belonging to lecturers), is not allowed. Do not claim the work of others as your own. If you post a paper on economics up for discussion, link to the website, or name the author.

    Flaming
Posts containing personal attacks on another user will be edited/deleted. Attack the post, not the poster. Minor infringements will warrant a warning followed by a ban. Serious infringements and/or intentional flaming will receive an automatic ban.

    Advertising
Topics/posts that contain this will be both edited and locked. If you wish to buy ad space, contact Hello@Boards.ie. If you wish to advertise vacancies pertaining to Economics, please PM a moderator in advance.

    Spamming
Topics/posts that are just complete nonsense will be deleted.

    Racism
Topics/posts containing such will be edited/deleted accordingly.

Conspiracy Theory (CT) Threads and Videos
^ They aren't welcome here. Posting links to CT videos will be met with deletion and repeat offenders will be banned. Ditto for threads on fractional reserve banking/Jewish banking conspiracies/the IMF and lizard people/etc. There is a CT forum here. The moderators hold full discretion over what constitutes a CT.

    Other
As per boards.ie rules, distribution or aiding the distribution of illegal material is completely forbidden. All other standard boards.ie rules and guidelines stand.

Any queries should be directed to andrewor NESF

If you are unhappy with a Mod decision then PM the Mods.

If you have discussed it with the Mods and are still unhappy then start a thread in the Dispute Resolution Forum.

There have been quite a few threads lately with questions like "Am I paying too much tax?" and "Are shares in AIB good value at the moment?" This forum wasn't created for personal finance-type queries so I think posters will get better responses in more dedicated forums.

Some forums that might be better suited to helping out are:

    Banking & Insurance & Pensions
    Consumer Issues
    State Benefits
    Work & Jobs
    Investments & Markets
    Accommodation & Property
    Entrepreneurial & Business Management

I'd appreciate it if you'd consider posting threads in these forums instead. Less work for us and better responses for you :)

    Thanks!

Due to the ongoing economic crisis, there has been an understandable increase in questions and posts relating to emerging events.

Please remember that whilst this forum is suitable for discussion relating to the study of economics, and economic theory, boards.ie also facilitates political discussion on economics through the Politics, and Irish Economy forums.

Examples of questions that can be raised in this forum:
    • When discussing the European Union, many people refer to the Taylor Rule. What is the Taylor Rule?
    • Do recessions increase efficiency?
    • Can inflation overstate the cost of living?

However, examples of questions that are better suited to the political forums include
    • Why does the ECB ignore the Taylor Rule?
    • Should the Irish Government embrace this recession?
    • How should the Government respond to the latest CPI/ HICP data?

These are just examples for illustrative purposes, and topics for discussion are not limited to such examples.

Essentially, if your question is of a political nature, you will probably receive answers to your better satisfaction in the political forums.

However, if you are raising a question or discussion about real life economic developments, but your fundamental question, or discussion, relates to economic theory or associated academic issues, then do feel free to post here.
