Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Total modding n00b... so what kind of cool things can you do with a modded ps3?

    Bear in mind I don't even own a ps3 but would like to buy one soon, and would like to mod the sh!t out of it. What features are there to be unlocked/added?

    hope you dont plan to use it online ! they cracking down big time on modded consoles

    That FAQ doesn't explain anything...

    So once again, what kind of things can you do with a modded ps3? The FAQ mentions unsigned code, not sure what that is. Would you be able to play backup games (as long as you own them first...) from a USB hardrive? And movies etc?

    The FAQ does explain it, if you read it correctly. Read between the lines. Try not being so blatant with questions that violate the charter, it will only result in this thread being locked from the discussion such a topic will generate.

    Unsigned code is unsigned code.

    Consoles require code/applications to be officially signed (usually by the manufacturer) as a sort of "This code is authorised to run on this console" type of thing. This stops Joe Bloggs developing nifty little applications for his PS3 - either the very handy apps, or the nefarious ones :)

    So if you PS3 can run unsigned code, it can run these applications.
