Here's a few useful links for Google Earth

http://earth.google.com/ - Download Google Earth from here
http://www.google.com/mars/ - Satellite Imagery of Mars

Some links to improve Google Earth

http://www.googleearthhacks.com/ - Some good add-ons here for Google Earth
http://sketchup.google.com/ - Make your own 3D models for Google Earth (great if you want to make a 3D model of your house :) )

If you know any more, please feel free to post them up in this sticky, just be 100% sure that there virus, adware, spyware and malware free and also legal before posting them

You can find more info and links here and some interesting things to look at here (that'll link you into Google Maps though, still pretty good) and a Google Earth blog here.

    Apologies - slightly off topic.

Anyone know how old the images are? From a scan of my area they appear to be at least a year old (new houses etc.)

    To be honest, no

I think there all different. The low-res pictures were taken by satellites, but the high-res ones were taken by photographers in planes, so whenever these photographers were circling your area, that is how old they are!

No I mean that you can get an application that monitors real flights. You can see the coming and going and moving around on the google earth map.
