I for one don’t want to be receiving unsolicited pms and ‘dick pics’ on the back of posting something perfectly innocent and non dating related on a forum for single people.

Neither would I, of course. But that is an extreme case. Could it not be used for dating and any inappropriate PMs get reported as they would now regardless?

Eg, one person posts "I'm over 40 and love the single life" - clearly not in it for dating.

Another posts: "I'm over 40 and longing for a partner. I like long walks on the beach and French food." Would it really be inappropriate for someone else to read that, and post a reply on thread, or via PM (in a respectful manner) saying that maybe they have something in common, let's start something and see how it goes.

Edit: could even be limited to just one thread in the forum.

I thought of the idea on the back of the Childfree by Choice forum.
That seems like a nice, safe space to talk about and trash out things that are common to a certain age group.
The demographic who I'd imagine would be posting in the proposed thread here, I'd hope would be more mature than to send unsolicited dick pics and maybe just want to debate things like getting a mortgage without a spouse, who to choose as next of kin, who to invite to a wedding as a plus one, where to socialise as a single person alone etc.

Ok, maybe it could work. I would just foresee problems with policing it especially since forum mods have no control over moderating pms.

It’s just that I know a lady in the real world who tried to set up a social group for over 40s to meet at the pub or cinema etc. She had a few women and couples interested but was inundated with queries from married men thinking it was a group that would facilitate them having extramarital affairs and hook ups. So much so that she scrapped the idea completely.

Absolutely. I'd like the forum to be mostly about those things - all good topics. But I just thought that dating shouldn't be banned outright from the forum either.

The Online Dating Forum here is a forum that explicitly states it's for discussion around online dating and not looking for dating requests.
So, if that works OK, I would hope this suggested forum would too.

    A +1 from me too.

I’m going to say +1, so long as people don’t think it’s a dating or hook-up forum. I think it needs to be carefully named.

+1 from me for the idea.

How about The Last Chance Saloon as a name?

aye the Pintman venturing into the saloon daily, that'd work alright! :pac:

I’m single by choice, not because I’ve been ‘left on the shelf’. The name you propose says to me that it’s a forum for people who have failed relationships behind them and are a little bit desperate for love. None of this describes me and I think it’s a little bit degrading to people in general who may want to post in a forum for single people.

Will add my +1 (I'm over 40 and married, not interested in using the forum, but would understand the need/want for it)

I'm of the same mind. +1

I can't see it having the traffic, tbh. The online dating forum is like a ghost town and this one would ostensibly have an even narrower remit.

This wouldn't be an online dating forum...its not limited to people looking to date, its for single people over 40 and I think there are quite a few of those on this site

+1 for the forum but I agree with the above. Please don’t call it ‘Last Chance Saloon’ - it’s desperate and defeatist. Like Cherry Blossom, I’m single by choice until I’ve met the right person, not desperate. I wouldn’t post in a forum called ‘Last Chance Saloon’.

I don't think any of us would! :D
Pretty sure he was just kidding about the name. Looking forward to seeing the forum up and running

Bumping this in case it fell through the cracks during the changeovers...

Maybe the relevant mods can give an update on the progress of the request.

    TIA,

    K.F.
