Can anybody recommend any reggae with female vocalists?
I heard somebody once, ages ago and never found out who it was, but it was good.

There's a deadly album called "Feel Like Jumping - The Best of Studio One Women"
    Great tracks on it.
Marcia Griffiths & Norma Fraser would be worth checking out.

Phillis Dillon, very nice early roots stuff if you can find it. 'Perfidia' is a great tune.

Cheers i'm having a look for those now.
The reggae i'm onabout is that sort of Rap reggae, reallly wordy and rhyming along with the beat, you know.
If that's a particular genre of reggae or whatever.

    Sinead O' Connor?
    You gotta be kidding me.

Try looking for ragga - sounds more like what you're after. I don't know of any female vocalists though.

When you said Rap Reggae, it made me think of a song.
Called Rock The Beat by The Jamaica Girls
    Probably more hip-hop than reggae.

It's on an compilation called Big Apple Rappin'

Was looking for Doreen Shaffer last night to no avail.
Even connected to a peer to peer server in Jamica.
Not one hit in my search.

Discovered Matisyahu in the meantime tho.
Some good tracks on his "Youth" album.
    Not stricly reggae tho.

Dancehall Queens such as Dawn Penn, Patra, Lady May might suit
And some of the great rootsy singers have already been mentioned too
Sister Nancy is a personal fav as is Marcia Griffiths!

Don't know many current female DeeJays but from the same era as Sister Nancy (80's) - Reggae wise, there was Mama Lisa (partnered Papa Kojak), Bionic Rhona (partnered Papa Face) and Lady Ann. Lots of good vocalists around too, the names will come back to me...............
