Anyone know what is with the lack of Rabo 12 games on the TV this year. This weekend it seems that only Ulsters away match is being shown on an Irish Provider and there also seems to be a lot more games not been shown on TV at all?

Apparently RTE don't have room for it in their schedule because of the RWC and they need to accomodate more than just rugby fans. I know when the Glasgow game was on a few weeks ago in the RDS there was a fuss made over it. TG4 were showing the Connacht game so at least they had an excuse. This was RTEs reply to the OLSC at the time, I'm assuming the same excuses apply this weekend with the exception of the All-Ireland (which was totally irrelevant as it was on a different day anyway!):
Thanks for your correspondence. Unfortunately a number of issues have conspired against us being able to cover this match. As you mentioned it is an extremely busy weekend with the All-Ireland final plus we will continue providing coverage of the Rugby World Cup and we have an important soccer match to cover on Friday evening. This meant we were unable to find a suitable place in the schedule which , of course, has to service non-sports fans as well.

I think TV have forgotten about Scottish and Italian sides for their home games anyway and if the Welsh dont cop themselves on it will be Inter Provs that only will get coverage.

Weren't there issue's last season in Italy with the broadcaster that had the rights to the Treviso and Aironi games?

Yeah the Scottish and Italian home games seem particularly poor, but this is only Leinsters second home game of the season and neither have been televised. For the HEC champions to not be getting any coverage at home games from a local broadcaster is ridiculous. The only Leinster match that has been on Irish television was the Scarlets game last week, and that was on TG4.

Leinsters home match against the Dragons was on RTE, I assume the coverage will be back to normal after the World cup.

rte/TG4 have the rights to Irish home games

they will also show away games through agreement with the company who has those rights

No UK company is showing the game therefore the Irish channels cant show it

When setanta had the rights to Irl and Sco they showed more games but when irish teams played in Wales we had to watch on S4C

Italy - since collapse of Dahlia TV last season there is no live coverage of Treviso/Aironi home games just a few clips so far on BBC2W of Treviso vs Ospreys and of brief highlights on STV of Aironi vs Edinburgh.
Scotland - BBC Alba are host broadcaster but AFAIK they are cash strapped and show only a limited number of Glasgow/Edinburgh home games and some away games if covered live by a host broadcaster.
Wales - BBC2W and S4C hold rights to all Welsh regions home games and provide extensive coverage with at least 2, sometimes even 3 matches shown live. BBC2W generally have Friday night and S4C have Saturday/Sunday. Sometimes they show a Welsh region playing away from home live if another host broadcaster is covering the game.
    N. Ireland - BBCNI have rights to all Ulster's home games and generally show their away games if another host brodcaster is showing the game live. Last week's match at Ospreys (S4C had rights) was shown live online but not on BBC2NI.
ROI- RTE/TG4 have rights to home matches of 3 other Irish provinces - usually a match on Friday night (RTE2) and one on Saturday (TG4). As explained above due to RWC and other commitments their coverage has not been as extensive over last month but will increase after RWC.

According to an Italian poster on PR, Raisport might be broadcasting the Pro12 from 'matchday 7' which I presume is week 7.

They are run on a shoestring in the first place and have been since the day they were set up. Only hope would be if BBC Scotland were to take an interest, but apparently they have been asked to come up with cuts of their own. There is the suggestion hovering about inside the BBC apparently that BBC Two might lose its regional opt-outs which would probably spell major trouble for regional sport opt-outs in prime time - relegation to the Red Button or worse likely.

If it helps, next week we are back to a full programme on TV with Ulster v Treviso on BBC, Leinster v Connacht on TG4, and Munster v Ospreys on RTE.

This would be a disaster for rugby viewers meaning BBC2NI/BBC2W would disappear and if Ulster/Welsh matches were relegated to red button they would receive fewer viewers - remember red button option is somewhat 'hidden' on satellite and a pain to record from while via Freeview (where it is easier to record from as it has a channel no. on EPG) there is only one red button stream that is shared with other sports and other non-sports programmes. In fact BBC is intending to reduce red button on satellite to similar to Freeview after the Olympics AFAIK. So let's hope BBC regional opt outs stay as they are.
