Homophobic attack on London bus - mod warning, please see OP

2 women were bloodily beaten up by a group of men in a violent homophobic attack. Why do some men get upset, angry and offended at gay people existing, they could have just minded their own business on what other's people's sexuality is but they rather intervene in strangers lives and beat them up for being gay.

Photo does look staged but believe it happened just it's a weird photo to take after what happened

    Because of religious beliefs

"A group of young men began harassing them when they discovered the women were a couple, asking them to kiss while making sexual gestures."

    From another article on Sky:

"They started behaving like hooligans, demanding that we kissed so they could enjoy watching, calling us 'lesbians' and describing sexual positions. In an attempt to calm things down, I started making jokes. I thought this might make them go away. Chris even pretended she was sick, but they kept on harassing us, throwing us coins and becoming more enthusiastic about it."

Yeah, definitely sounds like the group you're not so subtly alluding to.

What? This has nothing to do with religious beliefs. The men wanted the women to put on a show for them. When they refused they beat them. So not just a homophobic attack, a misogynistic one too from men who think that women exist for their titillation, and who don't like to be told no

What is very worrying is that boys/men are normally socialized not to hit women...even today, it is much more likely that a man would be assaulted by strangers!

Toxic parenting affects girls and boys differently, boys/men lash out, girls/women have a different process.

Not only a bunch of scumbags for attacking a gay couple, but you're no man at all if you beat up a woman.

Poor girls, at least they caught them ,unfortunately London's gone to the dogs with crime recently , I think there was over 100 people stabbed to death last year there. Other people on the bus were probably worried they'd get stabbed I've they'd intervened .

I don't understand why people are making a religious link. People who want to see two women kissing for entertainment are unlikely to be extremely religious IMO.

One of the victims is from Uruguay, he might have been speaking to her.

It was a thinly veiled dig at Islam.

Terrible to be minding your own business in what should be a safe place for that to happen. It's good they have the guys involved though. Might porn have dehumanised women and lesbians to the extent they are able to get over the taboo of hitting women? Is it even a taboo any more ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭victor8600

While this was a homophobic attack, I think these women just were unlucky to be picked by those lowlifes, who would have likely attacked someone (probably whoever looked weaker) on the bus anyway.
