I don't need a new phone - but that looks gorgeous.

Talk me out of it - tell me why I shouldn't get it.

Thanks tedpan - Is tax/customs due on this also? Any estimate on how much.

    * Redmi Note 3 Special edition - "kate" firmware will support band 20 (2015161)
    * Redmi Note 4(X) Global - "mido" firmware will support band 20. (2016102) Thanks @dogiex
    * Redmi 4x Global - ?Santoni? untested
    * Redmi 4a Global - "Rolex" firmware will support band 20. (2016116) Tested by myself
    * Mi note 2 Global - "Scorpio" firmware untested

I've bought a lot with them and never had issues with customs. I suppose there is always a risk though.

I had a redmi note 3. Awful, full of bloatware and a slow processor.

Me and my fiancée had one each and they both suddenly got infected with a virus that opened porn screens etc when we opened our phones. We never visited any dodgy sites. Chinese phone issue I reckon.

    So never again. Ever.

Have a redmi note 2 prime for two years now, same problem with Chinese porn opening when I initially got it, loaded the global operating system to it from xiaomi website, have had no issues with it since, great phone, good battery, it does everything a phone three times as expensive will do, two sim slots, SD card slot, 32gb internal storage, great screen quality, should get at least another year out of it, all for under 200 euro.

This is a gearbest / aliexpress thing. Any phone that comes from these websites needs to be flashed with the official firmware upon purchase.

You can get it from this seller who ships from Manchester for €217 + Parcel Motel/Wizard/Connect fee.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-6-44-4GB-Ram-64GB-Unlocked-Smartphone-Gold/122549301578?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

International rom and no risk of getting hit with customs. No f*cking about with Gearbest should it be DOA either. Worth the extra €21 just for that to be honest.

FYI, they're in Hong Kong too. I'm guessing you'll get the same thing as the gearbest one has the international ROM with Google play installed too

I've bought from that seller twice. Ships from a fulfillment center in Manchester. Seller is based in Asia though.

Has anyone tried reading a book on the mi max screen? It's bigger than a Kindle. How did you find it?

Have a Xiaomi Redmi 4X Global Edition on the way from Banggood, will it also have these issues? Have a Redmi that came from their EU warehouse and never had any issues with it.

yes, Dublin and Cork only likely. No rural 4g. (I have the same bands on my phone and no issues with Three, although I hear the 4g for meteor uses the missing band in Dublin.)
Have a Xiaomi Redmi 4X Global Edition on the way from Banggood, will it also have these issues? Have a Redmi that came from their EU warehouse and never had any issues with it.

    When you recieve the phone:
    1. Enable developer options (search youtube if you don't know how).
    2. Find the "build number"
    3. Search google for the build number.

There should be posts indicating if its a valid version or not.
If not you SHOULD flash your phone. You have no idea what is running in the background if not.

Banggood is likely just as bad as aliexpress and gearbest, Unless you specified when buying the phone to include the offical Xiaomi rom it may not have it.

They're the specs, although doesn't confirm if it's decent or not.

It's just where the phone ships from. I think the HK warehouse is the only option currently available. The phone is the international version with Google play etc.
