What was the highest temp in Ireland during the hot summer in 2018, wasn’t it around 32 or 33 degrees at Shannon?

I'm in Ballymote and its 19c here and fair. Does that help?

Yes, I think it does confirm that something's amiss with the sensor there. Dewpoint is now up to 19.1, air temperature 19.6. Claremorris is temperature 21.1, dewpoint 11.3. Newport and Athenry both dewpoints 13, Mount Dillon only 9.

It was a questionable 32.0 at 16:15 on the afternoon of June 28th.

It was 32C and from what I remember Shannon was on it's own with that temperature. A few other stations in the west got around 30C. The majority of stations in the country had mid to high 20s. Hopefully we can get a spell of heat late June or July with similar temperatures this summer. Here in Meath we got to 29C during one of the afternoons just as the hot spell was ending, the easterly breezes held our temperatures back for much of May and June that year to the high teens in May to low/mid 20s in June. We had several days of mid 20's during July and a few at the beginning of August that year.

Not so down here in Arklow, lovely marine breeze gusting 20kmh
    Currently 20.8c
    I won't swap
It'll be interesting to see if the sea breeze changes to a land breeze later this afternoon

Up to 25.6 degrees in my garden in cork city! Roasting! The airport is reading 24 so definitely the warmest day of the year so far for down here I think! Very dead, heavy air. It's getting a bit cloudy now too.

    So balmy here in D5

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭John.Icy

A lovely 23.3 here in D9 and feel like we could be maxing out as we've lost maybe half a degree the last hour. Lost any sustained sunshine between high cloud and for the first time in days some thicker cumulus. With some luck we might break 24 if we lose some of the thicker high cloud!

Not ideally located thermometer in back garden here in D14 shot up to 29.1c briefly from a steady ~ 25c for the past hour or so. Previous high this year was 26.8c. Now back at 28.2c, no breeze.

    High cloud encroaching.

back to 23C here in Dunshaughlin, maxed out at 24C briefly about an hour ago, getting cloudier now and also more breezy. The change is starting to take place.

Met's hourly forecast says 28C for 15h ,but it's only 23C. Bit of a discrepancy.

Iirc August and September were pretty disappointing weather wise in 2018, wasn't bad weather said to be the reason that more people didn't go to see the pope?

I thought Phoenix park was heading for 27 today but only 25 at 3pm. Some cloud kicked in, had it stayed away I think 27 would have been hit.

back up to 24C here at Dunshaughlin, must be fairly close to 25C, if we could get a decent spell of sunshine in the next hour we might do it.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,675 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Today is the warmest day of this spell for many, but we can already see the temperature lowering fairly quickly across the west and north. At this stage we have passed the peak and temperatures will begin to lower everywhere from now on. A few more hours of warmth across the east and south. Looks to be a fairly chilly day in Donegal and parts of Mayo, these are a sign of things to come for the next week to 10 days.

Interesting that much of Ireland warmer than the UK the past week or two.

It’s gone hazy here in the last 30 minutes. Proper hot in the sun but you can almost feel a change unfortunately imminent.

yep same here, you can tell just by looking at the sky that the change is coming and we are losing the grip on the high pressure.

Overcast with a moderate breeze at times in Castlebar, its dropped nearly 3C in the last hour but it has been a great spell of weather here.
