Medical personnel - can you date/court a patient?

I worked in a hospital for 5 years as a porter. I had amazing experiences within that time; learning so much and earning my responsibilities as the extra pair of hands in every department. Loved it.

In that time, I learned how much time medical personnel must commit to their job. Beyond doing the work expected of them, most are committed to educational pursuits/research/etc. Major sacrifice is par for the course.

Considering the circumstances, the likelihood of meeting a suitor while on the job is probably highly likely?

What kind of conduct/ethics surrounds courting a patient? What kind of ramifications are there for breaking these ethics? Is there a workaround for medical personnel in such a situation? Is it frowned upon in medical culture?

Not really. It tends to not to be possible to find someone attractive when you're running around a poorly resourced hospital like a headless chicken trying to keep people alive or at least, less sick.

We also have lives outside the hospital where we can meet other people. (Not a lot of time admittedly).

It's unethical. Full stop. Not to be done.

You would be struck off and prevented from working anymore.
Is there a workaround for medical personnel in such a situation?

Not really, no. You could wait until they were no longer your patient but it's still creepy.
Is it frowned upon in medical culture?

    Yes, very much so.

I lived with a bunch of doctors a few years back, they were like a bunch of hamsters - just crawling all over each other.

Used condoms all over the place - I absolutely kid you not.

They're not exempt from being horny, just cause they're doctors - put it that way.

Besides - a female GP in the practice I attend is just waiting her chance to jump my bones.
I get how that sounds but - basically what I'm saying is - although I'm no authority on the matter, I strongly suspect it happens, and happens regularly.

    Sure she is.
Sounds totally believable and not at all like a delusional fantasy.

Many a nurse met their partner as a patient.

    Doesn't make it right though.
