    Hey all,

Asking this on behalf of my dad. He recently had a run in with an Aircoach while on his bike. Thankfully no damage or injuries, but he thought it would be a good idea to get a "dashcam" for the bike, in case something similar happened again, he'd have proof.

Any recommendations for a cam that could be clipped to handlebars, and another for helmet? Some requirements would be that they are very easy to use (he's in his 70's not very techy), reasonable quality of footage, able to record in a loop (so he doesn't have to download/clear videos of SD card) and decent battery life.

I was thinking of a GoPro session for the handlebars, but anyone got any better ideas?

    R

you may be lucky and find the aldi one still available; it's €40 if you do find it, but they're on clearance.

check out the aldi specials thread, there have been sightings posted there.

Fly 6 or the generic version that was available in Aldi,

or the more expensive fly12 front camera.

I very much second that recommendation of the Cycliq Fly6, I even use it on the back of my motorcycle. I use it on every cycle, it'd be priceless in the event of an incident.

If it's just commuting, then an action cam would do imo. Most can be matched with GoPro mounts. They're pretty short battery life though - usually around 90mins max, but would love to be pointed to one that has a battery life of 4-5 hours!

If it's longer spins/ convenience of not having to charge as often, that's where the cycliq options come into play. Expensive, but also are a decent light. The aldi version still seems to be knocking around too as others have said.

I'd say one rear, and one up front (helmet or handlebar) probably better than two forward facing?

The Cycliq cameras have long battery life, and are waterproof.

I consider the one on the rear to be more important than the front. I figure if something's gonna hit me, it's more likely to be from behind.

Session battery life is on the low end, around the 2hr mark. That usually means charging after one or two round trips. No loop recording.

Action cams that match the GoPro mounting system are nice but IMO you want something thats easy to mount and unmount (you cant leave it on the bike) and the waterproof housings are fiddly buggers, the session style units win there as they're waterproof themselves without a casing.

Really the likes of Flys or Mobius maybe for the helmet are winners.

Apparently Aldi recently had an exact copy of the Cycliq Fly6 for €40. If you're lucky you might find one still there...

I'd hope so for the extra money, as not that impressed with my night time footage of the Aldi one tbh. I reckon it would be ok for a genuine close pass/ rear ender though, niether of which I've had since I've put it into action!

    Sorry, but....
DID you search for the numerous other threads that asked the same question, or slight variant , time and time again?

They are there if you search......

Mobius 2 is small, light and has enough battery life for most journeys < 1 hour. Easy to use - turn on with power button, wait 3 seconds and press record.

the cycliq is on sale on sportspursuit for 215 euro. Still expensive but a fairly whopping saving all the same.
