Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

31st May 1916 obviously figures quite significantly and must have been quite a big blow for a city like Portsmouth.

Yes, it was the day of the Battle of Jutland, the first and last major Naval engagement of WW1. Between the two fleets, British and German, almost 10,000 sailors lost their lives, so yes, I think that you might say it was a big blow for Portsmouth, the major home of the Royal Navy in Southern England.
