The final big BDO event of the year prior to the Lakeside World Championships took place in Holland over the weekend. Summary below:

    Group A
Mervyn King beat Klaasen and Essers - averaging 103.4 in one game - to advance to the quarters.

    Group B
John Walton, Darryl Fitton and Tony West each won one game - the Dazzler progresses on legs difference.

    Group C
Shaun Greatbatch beats Nijs and Sorenson.

    Group D
Tony Eccles beats Mike Veitch and Martin Atkins (both 5-4)

    Group E
Barney hammers Paul Hogan and van der Voort.

    Group F
Ted Hankey beats Kantele and de Ruiter

    Group G
Co Stompe, Paul Hanvidge and Dick van Dijk win a game each - van Dijk has the best leg difference.

    Group H
Martin Adams beats Tony O'Shea and Gary Robson - both 5-4 and Adams averaged 103 in both games.

    Quarter-Finals (best of 5 sets)
King v Fitton - goes to the final set, and King wins it 3 legs to 0.
Greatbatch v Eccles - goes to the final set, and Eccles takes it 3-1.
Barney v Hankey - Barney takes the first set 3-2, Hankey takes the second 3-2. The third set Hankey takes against the darts 3-1. Barney comes back with all guns blazing to take the 4th 3-0. Final set. At 1 leg all, Barney stands on 116 with Hankey on 111. Barney hits single 20, then the treble to leave 36. Inexplicably he takes a single 20 with his last dart to leave double 8. Hankey takes out the 111 and wins the next leg to take the set 3-1 and the match 3-2.
van Dijk v Adams - Adams strolls it 3-0, losing only 2 legs and averaging 104.

    Semi Finals
King easily beats Eccles 3-0, taking each set 3 legs to 1.
Adams and Hankey share the first two sets, both 3 legs to 2. Then Adams takes 6 legs in a row to win 3 sets to 1.

The Final (best of 9 sets)
    King v Adams (1st seed v 2nd seed)
Adams starts off on fire and takes the first 2 sets for the loss of only one leg. The next two sets both go to the fifth and final leg, and King wins them both to level the match (Adams missing a dart at the bull to go 3 sets to nil up). After the break Adams got on top again winning the fifth set 3-1. King came steaming back to win the 6th 3-0 and level the match. Set 7 was another final leg battle, with King checking out on 170 to win it and move ahead for the first time. But Adams didnt lie down, taking the 8th set 3-1 and taking the match to the final set. The final set went to 2 legs a piece (have to win by 2 clear legs), then King took the 5th leg against the darts and wrapped it up in style with a 12 darter (140,180,140,41) to take the set 4-2 and the match 5-4 (both men averaged just over 99 in the final).

    Great post The Rooster.

Sounds like like a great tournament and Adams and King seem to be in top form. What was Barney thinking going for the single 20. He deserved to lose the leg because of that and ultimately cost him the match.

The final sounds like it was an epic battle. I have always liked Adams but im not a big fan of King ever since he demanded the board to be moved in the WC. I felt that was just a ploy to put his opponent off.

Pity a tournament like this doesnt make it onto the tv over here because im sure it get great viewer numbers. Its all nicely set up for the WC now.

Apparently it was on Dutch TV. The standard seemed quite high, particlulary the two finalists who averaged around the 100 mark throughout the tournament. This is the 5th most presitigous of the 5 majors on the BDO/WDF circuit - though the prizemoney is appaling - King picked up €5,000 for his efforts.

Interesting that depsite being between 10 and 15 years at or near the top, I don't think Adams has yet won a major title. King was a similar story until recently - in 2004 he won the Winmau World Masters and this year he also won the International Darts League, so this is his 3rd major crown so the major bogey is certainly no longer an issue for him and he'll be a very close second favourtie behind Barney for Lakeside.

PDC World Championship starts on the 19th of this month and every game will be shown live on Sky Sports. It runs until the 2nd of January,

The BDO World Championship starts on the 7th of January and runs until the 15th of January. There will be quite a few matches shown live on the BBC and there will also be a highlights programme on every night detailing the dyas matches.

By the way I would agree that there should be a sticky set up on top of the site detailing various tournaments. I really think that one of us guys who actually know about darts should have been a moderator as well as amz so we could set things like that up.

BBC will also show every game live on interactive - if you have the magic red button.

Apparently the TV company made the mistake, not Barney. Barney hit two single 20s with his first 2 darts, but TV thought he'd hit 60+20, leaving 36. The camera switches to x18, but Barney sticks with 20s as he's actually got 76 left. Barney throws a treble 20 but the camera doesn't catch it - its still looking at 18s. The caller calls "100", so everyone on TV assumed he hit single 20 with his last dart and that Barney has gone temporarily insane!!

Ah now this makes an awful lot more sense as I really couldnt understand why in gods name he wouldnt have thrown for the double. Thanks for clearing that up Rooster
