That time of the year once more, out with the old and in with the new!! What’s people’s goals for the year ahead? I’ll get the ball rolling:

    1. Sub 17.30 5k.
    2. Sub 37.30 10k.
    3. Sub 1.21 Half.
    4. Keep the injuries at bay please!!
    5. More consistency, made improvement on this in 2019 but more work required heading into 2020.

Normally don’t pick arbitrary times to chase, but will for next year, keep the mind focused. Happy Christmas to you all, may 2020 make your running goals become reality!!!

Obviously try and stay injury free and run over 3000km for the year. Consistency with my training in running and supplementary work.

I'm normally the same but I'll go with it too... For time targets

    5km sub 17 minutes.
5 miles sub 29 minutes targeting low 28s.
    10km sub 35:40

If track happens (not sure if it will) 1500m sub 4:40, 3000m sub 10 minutes.

Also continue to stay active with my club and the greater local running community, volunteering where needed.

Not too sure about the number of 5 mile races in Sligo, but theres a BHAA Race in Dunboyne where I got my PB - fairly flat race and finishes on a track.
    Last Tuesday in May.

    BTW: My 1500 PB is 4.37 ;)

Love the last goal - top man.

2020 will be entered with the following PB's...

    5k: 17:06
    5M: 28:22
    10K: 35:11
    10M: 60:33
    HM: 1:19:40
    Marathon: 2:53:55

I'd like to think that they are all on the chopping block next year. Some are softer than others and all of them, with the exception of the 10Mile time, were set in 2019.

Some arbitrary numbers in here, in some cases I'll be happy to just PB, but I might as well put a time on the board.

    5k: 16:xx
    5M: 27:xx
    10k: 34:xx
10M: 58:xx (The 60min barrier was a personal bug bear of mine last year...it's gonna fall this year)
    HM: 1:18:xx
Marathon: 2:49:xx in Manchester would be fantastic and then maybe reasess for Amsterdam/Frankfurt

Will probably be a touch under 3000 miles for this year, not really in a position to up the mileage a great deal at the moment so will hopefully keep it at around the same.

I could talk about more sleep and what not, but it's a bit of a vagary really!

Going into 2020 fitter than I've ever been so looking forward to it all really :)

Didn’t set any 2019 goals, time to jump in again. 2020 will be mostly focused on marathon, with a few other distractions before and after the main block.

    50k - 4:09:59 (current PB 4:18:30)
    Marathon - 3:19:59 (3:22:11)
    HM 1:32:59 (1:34:17)
    10K - 41:30 (42:03)
    5K: 19:39 (19:40)

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,841 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

Last two years weren't great for me at all, so just going to focus on the 5k and maybe the odd 10k.

My pb is 19:38 but currently hitting 21:10(last parkrun was 21:27 but Griffeen is slow) for 5k. So first aim is to get that under 21 and go from there. Will race more often over the distance, parkruns etc. Will post my times in the log but dont have time to maintain the training part of it.

Really looking forward to the year ahead, vast improvements seen since June.
26 min improvement in the Marathon, time to get at some of the shorter stuff.

5k: 18:44 (18:45 2 year old PB, want to get back to where I was)
10k: 39:xx (40:06, very bitter pill to swallow....)
10 mile: Any improvement on this year...
    Half: 1:29:xx (1:32 PB, Bohermeen I think)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,825 ✭✭✭IvoryTower

    400m - 54s

    800m indoor - 2.06

    800m outdoor - 2.03

1500 - race my first one

    Mile - sub 5

    5k - 18.30 ...doubtful tbh

    Lets gooooooooooooo

I have three goals next year:

    - sub 18:00 5k (PB: 18:07)
    - sub 5:30 mile (PB: 5:42)
    - Be a regular 20 minute pacer at Rivervalley parkun (PB: 18:56, but it's a b0ll0x of a course)

I'm also registered for Donadea 50k (sub 4?), DCM (sub 3?) and possibly the SF Half (a PB!) which would be all great to do.

All of this is entirely fantasy land stuff as I recover from injury though :)

I'm back after 6 years of doing practically no exercise and my weight ballooning but thankfully I've been back running regularly for about 4 months so I want to set myself a few goals for next year. I'm not sure how realistic they are but sure lets see.

I'm disregarding my historic PB's for the moment as they are about 12 years old and are really from a different life.

    My goals are:
    1. Don't give up !!!
    2. 5k : Sub 20 min (PB ~23:30 in training)
    3. 10K Sub 43 min (PB unknown)

I might start a training log on here in the new year, I had an old one and it was fun looking back on it so yeah, might do that.

2020, jeez, when I was a kid we thought that was fantasy land. We'd be living on the moon and all that $hite.

My Goals are straightforward. Maybe try a 10k and I'd probably accept sub 38. Kinda given up on the PB of 36.48

The Half (PB 1.21.0x) I'll have a rattle off again. Would like to dip under the :21

And Marathon, I like to think I'm not finished here. Recent PB of 2.57.3x and I'll aim for sub 2.55 again........

We keep trying and that's the main thing.

    ctrl^V

    - sub 18:00 5k (soft PB: 18:47)
    - sub 5:00 mile (PB: 5:02)
    - if I get my mile target then I might try and set a time for the 800 after that. Target of 2:20 maybe

Started running earlier this year for the first time, so didn't have any goals for 2019 :D

    For 2020 something like:
    • 5k - 22.XX (currently 24.52)
    • 10k - 49.XX (currently 53.27)
    • Run a half marathon
    • Run a marathon
    • No injuries. (Been good so far!)

Bonus goals would be sub 2hrs in the HM and sub 4hrs in the full. I think those should be possible, but we'll see :)

Put a lot of effort into running this year for DCM with 31 min PB so I am changing it up a bit for 2020. DCM is still a big goal but I am not really able to swim so I plan for first 6 months to focus on learning to swim and complete a Triathalon (Tri Athy probably) while still keeping a good running base and working on short fast intervals. Then will move into Marathon training in June for DCM.

    So in short:
    • Learn to Swim and complete a Tri.
    • Work on short speed work and work for 5km PB (Current PB 21.37) - Sub 21min goal.
    • DCM 2020 PB - Current PB 3.35 so will see how first 6 months Tri training goes. I am hoping it gives me a really strong base going into DCM.

Try to survive another year, improve a little.

A few random times to aim for-

    3km- <10min
    5km- 17:10
    10Km- 36:10
    5m-29min
    10mile-1hr
    1/2-1.21

Eh, I'm not aiming hugely for times this year. I've segued a fair bit into trail running, where just finishing for me will be an accomplishment.
    • Complete 50k trail ultra marathon, in Malta in May!
    • Complete second trail ultra in latter half of the year.
    • Complete two trail half marathons, in January and March.
    • Earn five UTMB points.
    • Complete two road marathons, one in April and the other in May. One I'm running at training pace, and the other is a beer marathon (hic).
    • Run in four countries this summer.
    • Run 2500km for the year (2400 for year of 2019, grr!).
    • Learn to swim, like properly.
    • Sub 20 minute 5k.
    • Sub 40 minute 10k.
    • Sub 1:30 half marathon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,541 ✭✭✭Dudda

I'm waiting until the Dublin Marathon lottery entry places are announced first week in January before I make my 2020 goals.
That will decide how the year goes and what I'll concentrate on and when.

I just want to keep regularly running. Goals have helped the last couple of years though so ....

Increase kilometreage from 1,200 this year to 1,600 in 2020.
    Sub 21:00 5k (currently 22:02)
    Sub 47:00 10K
    Sub 1:45:00 Half

That'll do me. Onward and upward.

  • Registered Users Posts: 159 ✭✭dickidy

    goals for 2020.
stay injury free for it or none of this will happen

    5k - 19:50 (PB 19:58 but a few years back now)
    10K - 41:00 (PB 42)
    HM - 1:29 (PB 1:31:39)

    do the wicklow 200
    complete a marathon
    complete the glendalough 3.9k swim

jesus, even writting that just scared the life out of me

Started running earlier this year when I did couch to 5k. My main goal for 2020 is to continue to improve. Have done a couple of races which I loved so I'll try sign up for plenty of them in 2020 to keep me motivated!

    Goals:
    - Sub 25 min 5k (PB 27:27)
    - Sub 55 min 10k (PB 58:42)
    - Run a half marathon. Ideally I'd love to do sub 2 hrs but completing one would be an achievement in itself for me. I've never run further than 10k.

My main nemesis is shin splints so I'm hoping it won't scupper any of the above goals.

Excited for the year ahead :)

Have a couple of goals for 2020, to improve on all my race PBs from 2019, and actually race some other distances too (4 mile, 5 mile, 10k)

    5k: sub 19 (PB 19.24)
10k: sub 41 (not raced yet but 43.53 from a HM)
    10 mile: sub 70 (PB 74.31)
    HM: sub 90 (PB 93.39)
    DCM: sub 3.15 (PB 3.26.32)

Hope to do 2000 miles as well next year and maybe join a running club

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,204 ✭✭✭partyguinness

Main goal is sub 3:20 marathon (current 3:29) which I should manage all going well.

Sub 1:30 HM (current 1:36) would be great but not focused on it but may just be happen as a side effect of the marathon runs.

Get my core and technique sorted.

Everything else is a bonus e.g sub 20min 5k (currently 20:40) but I very very rarely run 5ks. Perhaps a 42 min 10k (current 44:xx but that was 2 years ago and have not entered a 10k since). Sub 1:10 10 miler would be nice (current 1:12).

And get rid of the patella tendonitis which is the bane of my life.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,850 ✭✭✭Marty Bird

Only 2 goals for 2020 running wise.

    A sub 2:50 Marathon.
    Try an Ultrarun if possible.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,975 ✭✭✭ooter

my only goal for 2020 is to run a sub 3 hr marathon and whatever times over shorter distances I need to nail to achieve that. ran 3:18 at Dublin in October so a big improvement needed. been working on shorter stuff over the last 2 months with the tom brennan 5k in mind, would love to go sub 19 in that to get the year off to a good start. sub 29 in the raheny 5 mile would be another good step.

Yeah, without looking at calculators I'd say maybe 17:45ish and sub 29? Maybe 17:30?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,975 ✭✭✭ooter

cheers lads, looks like i'm being way too optimistic, both times are unchartered territory for me so not really based on anything. to be honest I'd be delighted with 29:XX at raheny.

Get my hip sorted - and I dearly want to run the Dublin marathon. Never did more than 18km so it’s a big goal
