Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Cycling propaganda about a drop kerb at a bridge in Co Mayo?

    Still nice to see that the immediate response is to change the picture on the article, but if the dates are correct then the dropped kerb and signage were already in place when Irishcycle did their propaganda bit
    After spending nearly €1.5 million on this pedestrian bridge over the River Moy adapting it for cyclists was easy: just add a shared use sign and a bicycle logo on the ground. Forget about the kerb between the road and the bridge. No need for a small ramp for easy access — as we know all cyclists use mountain bikes and can easily mount the kerb.

    the google street view one dated 2009. i may have misunderstood the point being made.

    Sorry, I'm a bit confused here... what year are you trying to claim that the drop kerb was installed?

    Also: Why are you taking such an interest in a quick article I wrote years ago about the lack of a drop kerb?

    If you move about a bit in Street View you'll see a 2019 image with still-white concrete... the drop kerb was done basically -- give or take a bit -- a decade after the bridge was put in.

    Pardon me for the suspicion, but my concern is just like most propaganda pieces and fake news, misleading information and misdirection are often to the fore but I assume ( as the self admitted author of the article ) that you have something to back up YOUR assertion that it took 10 years to finish off a footpath ( other than a 2019 Google view image )

    Myself I just find it amusing ( and suspicious ) that for 6 years, 8 months you leave a misleading photograph up AND suddenly you manage to find one dated Jan 19th 2014 a day before you published the article that still shows an unfinished project ( you can tell from the undulating road surface ) just because it got mentioned as cycling propaganda here 6 years, 8 months later.

    Also aren't you glad that people other than cyclists take an interest in your articles or maybe you only intend them for cyclists consumption?

    As far as I can recall, the article always linked to the Google Street view image, but it never included the street view image. I've just checked the edit log for the article:

    For the record, the photograph is was taken in 2013. The data of the image file relates to when it was copied, uploaded and attached to the article which was auto-published the next day.

    This is bemusing and I'm not even sure what the claimed removal of the Street View image would have achieved or proven. The Street View link is noted in the article as showing the original bridge works (with an area fenced off just to the left of where the drop kerb was built nearly 10 years later -- ie that's not the drop kerb works which is fenced off).

    I hope that clears everything up... do you have anything to back your conspiracy theory or should we leave it at that?
