He's one of the few on the roster who is naturally funny. Making him just another brooding badass is boring. I'd like to see him used kinda like The Rock used to be, taking the piss out of his opponents on the mic but able to be intense when the time is right.

Agreed. Look at Drew now. He’s nothing compared to what he was last year. They did this wit Cena and Roman to a lesser extent. Turn the main face into this jokey, corny maître D type, with terrible gags. Drew got over cos he was cocky a bad ass and naturally funny. Now he’s a bit of a dork.

I think Big E needs to tone it down a bit now he's on his own. Can still have fun but he doesn't need the gyration and leg spreading

He used to be Dolph Zigglers lackey for a whlle

Think he was with him when he cashed in and won the world title the night after Mania

He and AJ Lee were with him, yeah. Think was the double turn that night. Ziggler turned face and Del Rio turned heel.

It was the following month that double turn happened at Payback. Ziggler was off tv for a month with a serious concussion, at Payback Del Rio won by repeatedly targeting the head of Ziggler.

Taker will definitely be at Survivor Series, seeing as it's 30 years since he debuted.

Taker will return when Vince wants and needs him and of course the money is right and the cinematic matches show he really doesn't have to work a match anymore they can film and edit it to look like he in his prime.

Re: Dynamite getting 5 times more viewers than NXT in the UK / Double of Smackdown / Almost Double of Raw / Almost double of Impact is a bit funny with the SKY situation.

SKY and WWE parted ways after so many years and you would have figured sky would have snapped up another big wrestling product, but alas, ITV had already signed a deal with aew. Kinda funny when you think about it as their WWE deal lasted over 30 years and they were just a few months out of easily showing another alternative product.

But aew being on a FTA channel is better. Funny to hear that Impact and Raw are roughly getting the same viewers in the UK.

WWE needs be on a FTA channel in some capacity to continue. FTA is the gateway to viewers, and keeping them behind a BT paywall does them no favors.

Sky had shows on Sky One and Two. Even less people have BT than Sky. WWE getting the BT money is a short term gain, long term it will damage them.

WWE does have FTA shows on Channel 5.

Raw and Smackdown should be on free to air channels within UK and Ireland... Even all of Europe.

It doesn't take a business degree to know that WWE makes its money through merchandise, live events (well not this year) and WWE network subscriptions.
The more people that see your product the more you can sell the above.

  • Registered Users Posts: 339 ✭✭weareallmarks

Maybe it dost take a business degree mate. They are making their money through tv deals. All other metrics are down, especially during the pandemic.

Gates where down, merch was down, subs where down or level.... It is the big tv deals that are keeping them afloat. This has been the case for the last 18 months +

    Product is sh*te. That's why it's down.
In America they make great money through their TV deals. But just this week it was announced AEW has more than double the viewers of smackdown and nearly double of raw in the UK. AEW is on an FTA Chanel. WWE is on bt which is no secret does not have that many viewers compared to sky sports or FTA.

If you knew a bit about business you would realise WWE's sales funnel - get eyes on your product and sell ppvs, live events and merchandise. Obviously today ppvs have been replaced with the network subscription.

WWE's sales department will also have metrics on average fan spending. More eyes on your product = more average fan revenue. Are you really saying WWE wouldn't benefit more from being on an FTA channel?

... We're talking about the business model here mate. That's the topic.

It's all well and good saying WWE should go to the FTA channels and put their content on there, but why would the FTA channels spend however many hours of WWE content there is on their platforms?

I mean, channel 4 showed heat and some FTA PPV's in the height of the attitude era, and axed it because they considered it too trashy. It matters not that the product has been PG for the guts of 10 years, that stigma of pro wrestling still exists in the minds of the mainstream broadcasters, you only have to look at the reactions of the likes of Gary Lineker when he has to promote it to see it in action.

I doubt the likes of BBC or RTE would even put it in the 2.00 Monday night time slot, nevermind a prime time slot.

    C4 had Heat, a C show. And 4 PPVs.

Heat was never bringing in big ratings nor had it big stars. A recao show like Livewire would have been better.

The PPVs on the other hand surely gave them a boost. I dont buy that the product was too trashy for C4. Yes one PPV had a timedelayed Mae Young exposure and that was bad, but C4 had plenty of trashy TV like Euro Trash and Jerry Springer for example, late night attitude era wrestling fit their late night bill.

    Jerry was UTV.

Heat was what got me back into the WWF after many years away from it

Point still stands though, they axed wrestling, whatever their reasons were. C4 deemed it not worthy. Would they have kept it if they had Raw and Smackdown? Maybe, but I sincerely doubt it. There is a certain snobbery and stigma that broadcasters and a lot of the general public attach towards wrestling that even shows like Euro Trash and Springer don't have, you know this to be true yourself.

Do you really see any of the main channels in UK or Ireland dedicating 3 hours to Raw any time soon?

Sky One would be the biggest channel Id expect. But it doesnt have to be a big channel, nor does it have to be a full show but the condenced 1 hour Raw would be fine slotted in on this channel, or FX or Dave.

Few will have BT to see it. Channel 5 isnt over here mainstream.

Back then it probably wasn't cheap to have WWE. To get a deal that takes 4 PPVs, including Royal Rumble away from Sky must be expensive. And this was long before WWE Network and PPVs would've been on Box Office?

When channel 4 took them off sky the wwf PPVs weren’t on box office at all. I think the UK only ones they had at that time were but not the others. Channel 4 clearly didn’t know what they were getting and to have their first ppv be the royal rumble 2000 probably didn’t help. The big show return at the same event the year after they went to an ad break ffs as he entered. The fact they weren’t live either wasn’t a great call.

Incorrect, it has been replaced by tv money. Not network, that number hasnt gone up in years.

So maybe a degree in business IS needed mate. Without the TV money they'd be in trouble. NEtwork has minimal bearing on bottom line with billions coming in from TV......

    Thanks

This is a pretty big deal Marvel & AAA have a partnership

Wrestlers will use Marvel names and masks at TripleMania
Marvel and AAA get together to expand the sporting and cultural experience of Mexican wrestling. As part of the actions that will be taken for this collaboration, a new group of wrestlers inspired by Marvel's most iconic Super Heroes and villains will be introduced; and a series of family events that will gather the perfect combination of sports, culture and entertainment that distinguishes wrestling in Mexico will be developed.

"This collaboration with AAA represents an opportunity to participate in an iconic part of Mexican culture, such as wrestling and offering attractive content and experiences to the whole family that can be further celebrated with spectacular consumer products inspired by this discipline which is valuable for fans and consumers; says Luis Lomelí, Head of Licensing and Consumer Products area at The Walt Disney Company (Mexico). "While developing these storytelling and content creation initiatives, the premise has been to stay true to the essence of Mexican wrestling at all times by bringing together AAA’s experience in terms of wrestling and Marvel’s experience in terms of story and character development. The potential of wrestling is unlimited. Its quality, color and talent are increasingly valued in the world. Based on this unique and original creative platform, we will develop different product lines such as clothing, footwear and accessories, toys, household and school items”, adds the executive.

I have seen all manner of shít on the internet but that video is one of the few things that made me turn away from the screen and close my eyes. Just horrific.
