A Ghia? There was never a MKII Escort Ghia. Sacrilege.

I gave that a bit of thought and decided it's probably not a runner. 197bhp (on overboost) and advertised as the power output in the USA and other markets) is plenty I think.

Then there's costs and hastle, and it might make resale trickier down the line.

I take it back. There was indeed a MkII Ghia. Softly sprung by comparison to an RS2000.

Lindsay Ford up north are mountune agents, be a sin not to remap it

You'd probably want to wait for the 5 year warranty to run out before starting at that.

Still though, 180bhp in a fiesta sounds like fun to me, does it come in that lime green colour like the focus RS?

Mountune is Ford approved so doesn't void the warranty I think.

Colours are Race Red, Panther Black, Fozen White, Spirit Blue and Molten Orange.

I think the local one here is the Molten Orange. Yum

I think the article is a tad tongue in cheek, and written by a older gent.

Hey, I haven't driven it. But that is something even a short test drive could tell you.

Like yourself, I'm not usually too worried about getting a test drive. A short one tells you very little, and a car that's a bit different takes a while to get used to anyhow, so things that annoy on a short trip might just be things you get used to.

Plus the new car smell sells every car anyhow :D

Christ whatever you do don't get an ST1! :(

Get a decently kitted one, or the ST2 as the Irish market allows. It still pains me to see the amount of MkII Focus ST's that are bare bones and ST1 spec in this country.

I would say resale would be easier with a ford approved upgrade, similar to subaru and their PPP upgrades and vw's performance pack.

There is also the increase in torque to factor in and every test with the upgrade gave it glowing review.

Mountune is a no brainer if you want to keep things warranty friendly and also get the best from the car.

If you fancy going a bit more 'all-out' with it, there's always the Pumaspeed packages option and a 280bhp Fiesta ST. :D

Funnily enough I'd have the opposite view.

    ST2's increased spec is:

    LED daytime running lights.
1/2 leather Recaro seats. ST1 has cloth Recaro seats.
    Sony audio.
Climate control. ST1 has manual a/c.
    Rear privacy glass.
    Push button start.

Not worth an additional €1500 to me.

Test drove one and was as quick as my clio 197 Engine noise was a bit different allmost sounded like they have a microphone under the bonnet and it comes out the speakers.

Its a good car very nice and looks amazing.
If I was to get one it would have to have the keyless start and cruise control, Your only off a ST3 by a few hundred then so I would get the ST3.

But Im after something bigger now, Focus ST just doesn't float my boat at the moment either. Think I might go the saloon class.

A sound symposer is used, so you're right on the piped sound.

Cruise control on a hot hatch? Nah.

    ST3 isn't available in Ireland.

I would be of the opposite opinion, €1500 well spent. It will make the car easier to sell on.
    I'd actually say that's a bit of a bargain at €1500,

Cruise control on a hot hatch?

Cruise control on everything that moves, for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

The Sony Audio and upgraded seats are worth it alone for me, if it's the same as the Focus ST. There's a world of difference in the additional speakers and audio quality from the upgraded unit. Climate control is much nicer than manual A/C and realistically if you're selling it on in 3 years from now, it will be a nearly standard feature in most cars and one without will really seem outdated.

Overall for €1500 you're getting quite a bit more and do they not still give you the Drivers pack and stuff like that as standard in the ST2? Nice things like door protectors and illuminated ST sill plates etc... ? All not exactly necessary but really nice touches and the little things that make the car all the more special.

Each to their own but in that class of car for me manual a/c is fine. So are cloth recaros, and so is a decent stereo.

More important are proper driver aids like abs/esp/eba/ebd, traction control with torque vectoring, Sync, heated windscreen etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

Traction control is the devil in a hot hatch. :P

    Disengage! ;)

I just downloaded the brochure for the Fiesta ST, and it says that the ST1 doesn't have basic a/c as standard.

The ST2 has manual a/c (no climate control), while the privacy glass and push button start are an option pack for the ST2 only.

The a/c on its own would be enough of a reason for me to upgrade to the ST2.

In fact, both models are complete poverty spec Paddy spec specials (the ST1 especially so), even the Irish ST2 is only a fraction better than the UK ST1 and then they have the proper ST2 and now an ST3 spec as well to choose from....

The brochure is out of date. Confirmed by Ford in Cork on the phone.

p.s. Try adding manual a/c to an ST1 on the car configurator.

Jesus Henry, you're getting a hard time of it considering the tiny minority you're in buying a car like that.

If you're gonna do it, do it right. :P

I'm guessing the old brochure is out of date and there's a facelift on the way, similar to the Focus. The new base spec is a vast imporrovement on the original Fiesta ST base spec, so you're not doing too badly going for it.

As I said each to their own.

The Fiesta has just had a facelift btw.

Thought they were doing another for 2015, or is that what they're calling the last one already?

The current Fiesta was facelifted at the end of 2012, unless they facelifted it again now.

My apologies - I assumed the Ford brochure would be correct about such matters:D!

I'd still go for the ST2 - part leather and climate control are enough for me. I reckon the ST2 will be worth more secondhand too - it's a niche car in Ireland and anyone who wants a used one is buying it because they like hot hatches so they will want the one with more spec.

It probably will be worth a little more used, but not much more, and because I'll probably move it on within 12 months, not really worth the extra investment.

A hot hatch shouldn't have leather seats imho - your arse should be planted and held in place.

Climate control over manual a/c? I've owned many cars that had one or t'other - Climate Control you set the temp. A/c you turn a dial hotter or colder. Much of a muchness. The only difference is the interface.
