I bought a car recently that had not been NCTed for 18 months. i brought it to NCT and it passed and they gave me the disk and its only for 6 months.

this seems a shade unfair to me since i am the new owner. Has anyone had experience of this before?

NCT due date is always anniversary of first registration date . On a plus side if you do your next NCT in 3 months time you'll get a new NCT valid for 15 months .

Test date is based on the anniversary of the car registration.

You should have taken it into consideration when purchasing the car.

You can get tested again in three months and you will then have either 15 or 27 months before the next test date. (might be just 24 months if you are at the 10 year mark)

If you do the test more than 90 days early when it has a valid test then the due date changes to 12 months after that date.
