Outside socket cover not fully closed

I have lights connected to an outside plug that I would prefer not to have to go outside every night to turn off.

I connected a smart plug (got these 3 for £16 in the summer)to the outside socket and it works great but as a result the socket cover does not close. As a result the smart plug/and lights plug are covered on the top but exposed on the sides.

The right hand picture shows it "closed". Do you think I'd get away with that safety wise?

I could maybe wrap in some gorilla tape actually to be sure to be sure/
