I want to build a project car. I have an old shed of an 1991 MR2 with a knackered body but mechanically the car is pretty sound, NON Turbo model so it's not particularly desirable or anything. I got the car for tiny money from a friend who was going to redo the body on it. They gave up on the idea because it was too much work. The car was rolled so the body is in bits. I don't know what to do with it really.

I was thinking of doing something interesting with it like creating a one off designed body for it. Firstly take the ridiculous Ferrari 355 body kit out of your heads, I am not a fooking idiot to pretend I have a 355 with crooked panels and general shi!teness. I am talking about designing a complete custom body of my "own design" and literally making the car look like something of a classic early 80's sports car. It could have design clues from Lotus, Lambo and Maserati as an example. Think of something that sits very low, sharp and boxy looking, in silver.... Lets say I did this with this beaten up MR2, who would insure an MR2 with custom designed body like this ? What classification would this fall under ? Kit car ?

Just to note, if I did this and it turned out bad then I would not drive it. I would only put it on the road if it was genuinely well done and looked like a factory build. I would be very fussy about it. If I felt halfway through the build process that it wasn't working out then I would abandon it. To have someone make the body for me along with custom head and tail lights isn't going to be cheap. All design work will be done by myself with help of a specialist to size the body up to be sure it looks correct on the MR2 chassis and not look like a lump of carbon fibre glued to the top of an MR2 like what some people are probably thinking. NO... It will have to be perfect or nothing at all.

I may not do this at all, I may take this thing to a scrap yard or sell it for parts. What is anyone's opinion on this ? Waste of time ? Probably cost 15k or more to do it. Pretty cool if it turned out well though.

Forget about this idea, just discovered the chassis is warped. Stripping the good parts off it for sale and the rest is going to a scrap yard.
