For those of you who may be interested in the game, looks like a third playable faction will be added to the game on the 21st of May...Romulans

I'm very well aware of the games bad rep with some people, still many people enjoy it, myself included.

If the new faction is handled like the Federation it should be cool but a grindfest to level up like the Klinks have would be rather boring imho.

I'd almost come back to the game just to get me some D'deridex action.

anyone who's still playing part of any decent fleets? ive just gone back to it for the first time in about 2 years, since before it was sold or went free to play. i'd never progressed very far - just to Lt Commander. looks to have been a lot of decent changes, so just getting my head around them at the moment. fairly casual player, wouldnt be spending huge amounts of time or anything so not interested in a hardcore fleet - just some people to team up with the odd time, if there's any recommendations?

One of the bigger fleets, Jupiter Force is fairly casual friendly last i heard, I'ld suggest my own but we're not entirely active as a group at the moment. Probably wont be until the new Rom faction comes out.

I have started playing this but was a little annoyed that i have to reach level 25 before i can play as a Klingon. Is there an easier way to do this by buying a pack or something ?

That will change on tuesday with the launch of the romulan exapansion(free), the KDF will be given a 1-50 mission ark, explained here.

Speaking of which - launch trailer

nope, its to stop what happened on launch night, the interaction lag was so bad it was taking 20-30 min just to equip a ship, easy way out is to become a gold member, my starting place in the 24k que last night was 6

    Might go gold tonight.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,274 ✭✭✭Monty - the one and only

just a heads up before you do, que times for gold members were upto 30min after 9:30 pm last night

Have to say I'm really liking the Romulan faction. The missions and level earned ships are so much better than the Fed and Klink stuff. One thing tho the voice over work is still pretty god dammed awful and Denise Crosby's work is really bad.

I went gold over the weekend , am currently enjoying my new ship. I got a ship like Voyager, i then did a mission which gave me an enterprise type ship, which i am not liking.
Had no problems getting on either, i was right in all over the weekend. I have suffered a few glitch missions though .

The ambassador class, like all cruisers takes quite a bit of getting used to, with the slow turn rate. If you need any help, if Im on just gimme a shout @revenis

Is the Defiant class any good do you know ? I have seen them about, just not sure what they are like.

Each ship falls into a different class, escort, cruiser or science.

Escorts, like the defiants generally are glass cannons, high turn rates with alot of forward facing firepower but are squishy as hell. est armed with dual cannons/heavy dual cannons.

Cruisers, like the galaxy class, tend to have slower turn rates, more often than not, these will be the tanks. Usually best armed with beam arrays.

Science, tend to be hybrid ships of the above, they have by default a higher shield modifier aswell as the ability to target ship subsystems.

There is a 2 other classes, Carriers and Warbirds, both sides have access to carriers, but depending on the type, depends on how they are outfitted.

Warbirds, have the 3 main classes... but bewarned the turn rate on the bigger ones is comparable to carriers... (ie they dont turn, the universe turns around them). Alot of people are complaining about this, however its fine, the romulan battle cloak gives a massive turn rate increase ( from 4.2 to 20+)

One main thing, never mix and match different class of energy weapons eg phaseer, disrupter, plasma and so forth. For each different type that you have equiped, you loose -5 weapons power pershot. There are exceptions to the rule, with hybrid weapons.

    [edit]
Addtionally ships lean towards what class of character you have, tacticals tend to go for escorts, engineers for cruisers and science for science, that is not to say that you cant choose anyship, at higher levels, there are hybrid ships.

for example cruisers for feds, you'll get a choice of either a star cruiser or sovereign class ship, one is slotted for engineers, the other leans more towards tactical.

To put it simply, the ship you fly is purely based on how you like to play

Just to add a little to what Monty said.

    1) The basic Galaxy is just a crap ship tbh and the Defiant is a much better ship choice at that level. I reckon alot of the Defiant's you are seeing are the T5 and fleet versions of that ship tho.

    2) Remember you can replay past missions for more level appropriate gear as the rewards level up with you.

    3) Use the Doff system as soon as you can as the chunks of exp while small do add up and are a very nice boost to leveling up your character.

    4) Mixing weapons is only an issue at max level imho so don't blow crap loads of credits on gear from vendors or the exchange that you will very soon outlevel.

I did find the leveling to be quite easy to be honest. But i will check out the Doff system.

I have been picking up alot of LockBoxes too, are they worth anything ? I see you have to buy a key. But i am not too interested in spending anymore money on it to be honest.

The Doff system is an extra way to get Dil, Boff's, Doff's, rare gear and most importantly instant travel. Leveling up diplomacy grats extra transwarp locations. Rare Doff's can also give major bonuses to both ground and space skills.

The very rare items from lockboxes in general require a hell of a lot of keys (60-100) to get and it really depends if you really must have the ship in question. The rare and lower drops can always be found on the exchange for very little credits tbh. Saying that some of the best ships in the game stat wise are lockbox only drops.

You can try selling the lockboxes on the exchange but its more hassle than its worth imho as credits can be farmed way more easily.

Right, I've just realised you're talking about the Duty Officer Systems and not a Star System called Doff. I was trying to find it on the maps. :o

Anyone else got any nice beginner tips?

I played this game briefly ages ago and then as now I'm a bit befuddled with what I supposed to be levelling/aiming towards.

I picked a Romulan tactical char but not really sure what I'm doing re equipment/levelling etc.

Im the same went fed tactical but really just plodding along doing missions and picking up dilithium. No idea what weapons i should be going for that are best suited or if i should be crafting everything

I'll dig out a few guides when I get home from work, but the one thing I will say, don't bother with crafting, it's not worth the hassle.

I've given the game a few hours now and unless I'm missing something it's terribly dull..

    Have you tried pvp?

You are kind of right though, I'm omly really interested in the fighting, and the novelty of doing so in the various ships from the shows.

Really? Do you mean because you're not using the accompanying module which provides a boost for said weapon type or just in general using different types of weapons lessens their effectiveness?

I always thought I was being clever having multiple weapon types, only choosing the ones which do the most damage also thinking different enemies would be more vulnerable to different types of weapons so best to have a bit of variety.

in general, though i do have a couple of builds that can handle the power reduction for 2 types of weapons, on ships. On the ground this makes no difference.
