Wouldn't always go promoting Armagh :) but the crowd reaction to Ger Houlihan's goal is fantastic.

To be fair, he scored several like that - no fluke !

I didn't see this mentioned yet.

I just looked and it's the second post.
In football I think if Cork had won the 1999 All Ireland the goal Joe Kavanagh scored would be up there with any.

Cork and Meath 1999 final at 4 minutes into that video, Joe Kavanagh strolls up and sinks it. Most blasé but unreal feat of football I've ever seen.

Cork did reasonably well for themselves for a while there.

In hurling John Fenton's goal against Limerick in 1987 was such a pure strike of the sliothar it has to be up there, while Mugsy's goal against Dublin in 2005 had absolutely every piece of skill you'd want from a footballer. Owen Mulligan's goal deserves to be called the greatest goal of all time.

If we're talking about goals you've seen live, the O'Hara goal, remember being in the corner to his left hand side thinking 'He's not slowing down '

Two other great goals I've seen in the flesh

Goals I've seen in the flesh, this one from Bernard in the 2014 league final

    brogangoal.gif

McCaffrey's goal against Kerry in last year's drawn final is probably my favourite of all. Just a devestating end to end move. 15 seconds from Cluxton's kick out to the ball hitting the Kerry net. When Howard caught the ball around the middle of the park and I saw Jack putting on the burners I knew there was a goal coming if they could get the ball to him.

Hurling - John Fenton (Cork) v. Limerick, 1987 Munster semi-final

    Football - Michael Meehan (Galway) v. Cork, 2013 All-Ireland quarter-final

Meehan's goal always rankles a bit. It brought Galway, rank outsiders, to within a point of Cork, but the feckin ref. blew for time upon the kickout. Wouldn't happen today :-( It was probably the great Meehan's last significant contribution in a Galway shirt.

Damien Comer scored a belter in the otherwise lamentable defeat to Tipp' in 2016.

Didn't Tipp' score a great goal when shocking the Dubs in the Minor final a few years ago?

That was an awesome goal by Jimmy Barry Murphy, a living legend.

John Fenton the man who set it up had an even better one against Limerick in 1987.

I had a great view for Fentons goal, around the 50 in the old stand. What a rocket.

Yes i think that goal was lucky. Some say Flynn put top spin on the shot to try and get it to move mid air. I dont know i think it was very shoddy defending and usually 9/10 would have been stopped quite easily from that distance.

9/10 would have, this one wasn't though it ws deliberate and he put the ball in the top corner from 50 yards.

Yes O Sullivan was poor, stepped in beside Donal Of as he didn't think hed go for it. But why did he think that? Because pretty much nobody could go for it and put in the exact place where you wouldn't be able to get to it. Incredible strike.

I'd have mentioned Fenton's in the OP but I wasn't alive so couldn't call it best goal I've ever seen.

Meehan's is mine now from a non Meath game to be honest. It just always sticks in the memory.

Trevor Giles from the penalty spot in 96 against Mayo is another of mine.

By no means his most astonishing score skills-wise, but in terms of pure emotion, it has to Matty's vs. Armagh in the 2008 AIQF.

I remember Armagh fans around me abusing Forde all day, particularly at the start when Francie had the upper hand, but the way he caught the pass and left Hearty's on his arse with his side-step was Brazilian Ronaldo-esque.

Love the crafty point at the end to stick it Bellew one last time too :D

Ah c'mere. He looked like his two feet were stuck in mud.

It's at 3.50 if anyone else wants to see it.

A few Kildare ones I've seen live.

    Emmet Bolton v Monaghan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBAxcL24kbk

One goal that does stick in the memory though is Peter Canavan's v Kerry (what is it with goals against Kerry) in one of the All Ireland finals between the two. Getting a nice pass from Mulligan, who he used to teach in school, and placing the ball inch perfectly just inside the post with his supposed weaker left foot giving the hapless Kerry keeper no chance. The composure from Canavan to not blast the ball like many others would under the highest of pressure and have time to process that a softer, precision kicked, daisy cutter was the best option was the mark of a true giant of the game. What Canavan lacked in build he more than made up with brains, skill, wit and courage.

This came to mind for me too. I have definitely seen more spectacular goals but the skill and setting of this one makes it stand out.

Padraig Brogan goal v Dublin in the All Ireland semi final replay 1985.

James Carr wonder goal v Galway last year.

I loved the genius of Graham Geraghty's goal against Tyrone in 2007. Most players would have tried to round the keeper but Geraghty went for the lob.

I was in the Hill for the game and some Sligo lad (Sligo played Cork in the other game that day) spend the entire game up until then shouting abuse at Geraghty. Never seen someone shut up so quickly after that goal.

For sheer drama, it would probably be Ollie Murphy's last minute goal against Westmeath to snatch a draw in the All Ireland Quarter Final in 2001.

Just remembered Davy Dalton's goal in the Division 3 final vs Monaghan. It's on Youtube but beware the quality of the video isn't great

Some crackers on here outside of the widely remembered famous goals.

Obviously as a Roscommon man I'm biased, but this was a beauty - it won TG4's Goal of the Year 2017 - Two class passes (especially the second) and a clinical finish that I believe was better than Canavan's famous one in 2005.

    1. Above Liam Hayes goal v Dublin in 1988 replay div 1 league final when Meath defeated Dublin by 8 points. Meath put on exhibition of football that day. Bernard Flynn gave the greatest performance by Meath forward in a final in Croke Park ever, but Liam Hayes goal was outstanding.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MJDiaIlSwI

2 Above John McDermont goal v Kerry in 2001 All Ireland semi final when Meath defeated kerry by 15 points. Meath put on an exhibition of football that day. This goal was good example of Boylans Meaths attractive style of football. Quick long passes into forwards who could win ball. Long ball into Ollie Murphy lays it off to Geraghty who passes it John McDermont who buried it to net. Meath never got credit for some of the top class football they played under Boylan.

I reckon John Fenton goal is overrated.
No way Anthony Nash, Eoin Murphy, Mark Fanning, etc would let that in today.
I know it was Tommy Quaid in the goal but still.

Paul Flynns goal from a free against Cork in 04 from absolute miles out to help 14 man Waterford win the Munster final against a brilliant Cork team who would later go on to win the All Ireland that year

Cant find the video of it but Rory McCarthy in the 1st minute versus Limerick in 2001. An amazing overhead strike.

Dublin had a brillant team in late 80s, unlucky to face one of the greatest teams ever year after year eg Meath 86 to 91. But they did have some excellent footballers. Great goal by Ciaran Duff in 1987 league final v kerry, a move that went the whole of the field.

    2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnMkmGv5Ow0
Great goal again by Ciaran Duff in 1989 Meath v Dublin leinster final. It must be said Mick lyons was injured and liam Harnan was not playing at centre back in that final, and when Mick Lyons was full back and liam Harnan was at centre back no one ran through the Meath defence 1986 to 1991. Still great goal by Duff.

    3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0NLF5KpppA
Great goal by Bernard Flynn in 1994 league final Meath v Armagh, his second goal was even better.

    4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5pQEZ_ft6k
Has a team ever scored 5 better goals in 1 championship in Croker as good as these 5 goals Meath scored in leinster semi final 2010 v Dublin. 2 brillant goals by Stephen Bray, two class finishs by Joe Sheridan and Cian Ward and a soccer finish by Brian Farrell.

Down 'only' led by 11 points in that match.

O'Rourke definitely was ill but pneumonia is really stretching it - unless of course your medical qualifications can prove so.

There were quite a lot of analysts who thought John Newton and Seamus Killoran from Roscommon were just as good if not better than the excellent Meath midfield pairing and they proved that by lording midfield for over 3/4s of the game when they met in the All-Ireland semi-final in 1991 along with dominating them in a number of league games in that era.

Not that I disagree with you about that great Meath team - my favourite team of all-time, despite the fact that I've no connection whatsoever with Meath.

Seen u mentioned 1991 semi final, here is Duggans class finish from the match

This is a great team goal which came in the first few minutes of the 2000 all Ireland replay. The clip doesn't do it justice as it doesn't show how Kevin Walsh caught the ball under his own crossbar from a Kerry free kick and Galway worked it up the field for Meehan to score, definitely the best team goal scored in croke park. Had Galway won it would probably be remembered more.
