Some suggestions -
1. The Shadow of Beal na Blath - documentary/some drama on the life and death of Michael Collins. Great interviews by survivors of the period. Love the music. http://info-wars.org/?p=4697 2. The Treaty. Drama. Quite good. A bit light on the Black and Tan issue. http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Treaty-V...2697391&sr=1-2 3. In Search of Ancient Ireland. Documentary. Collaboration of PBS and RTE. Interviews of Irish archeologists and medieval historians. Great visuals of ancient sites. http://www.amazon.com/Search-Ancient...ref=pd_sim_b_1 |

Gerry Adams Late Late Show debate, 1994
This was truly great television. It encapsulated so much of how great the Late Late Show could be under Byrne's stewardship, as a chat show and also as a vehicle for cultural, social and civic debate in Ireland.
I found these clips on Youtube. Forget about the title of the videos and the obvious slant of their original uploader. Just watch. Part 1 Part 2 I was particularly impressed from 2:35. Part 3 You could hear a pin drop from 5:05. |

sound, i know of two crackers. How do you get the link onto this site as seen with the chap who put on the Gerry Adams Late Late link as oppose to typing in the website address?
this one where gay byrne refused to shake his hand?. I distinctively remember usual preview/promo clip aired before the 9'0clock news (first time i released the impact in the north - was only 10ish) I remember it was a clip of gay byrne gagged and tied to a chair in the dark with a spot light over him, and out appeared a beardy man (obviously not the real G.A.) some smart remark was made, then cue the news. Ambush is not an appropriate word for this interview when you consider the great reception Ian Paisley use to get when he came down to RTE studios (his daughter have a show in the late 80's) It would be excellent if this is kept as a stickie, saves all from endless minutes / hours looking for good history documents etc and a nice little reference pointer, an avenue to learn new things etc Last edited by walrusgumble; 16-09-2009 at 09:11. |

Every video on youtube has a code in the url. You copy what comes after v= and post it inside youtube tags. It looks like this [youtube]egom6-LIxdM[youtube]
the reason the above video isn't visible is because the second tag should have / in it, but once that is changed the link will show up as an embedded video. |

I think that Adams held his own in the face of Byrne's "ambush" as you say and RTE which helped distort the true and appalling history of NI for a whole new generation. Last edited by MarchDub; 17-09-2009 at 12:18. |

A Pathé clip of the British Troops handing over a town (Athlone) to the Irish Free State Troops. - Leading Free State was Seán McKeoin (or Mc Eoin?) The Blacksmith of Ballinalee. The castle itself will be 800 years old next year. The smart asses might be witty enough to note that there might be little difference with Athlone in 1921 and now.

An interesting British Documentary entiled "The Irish Freedom Fighters". Its about 30-35 years old. The stars of the documentary are the people themselves you fought during 1916, Tan War & Civil War. We get to see them in the flesh. Tom Barry, David Neligan, Joe Sweeney and many more. There are some genuine moving moments (bearing in mind many of that generation who took part, were not always keen on talking about that time.)
