Firstly, welcome to the Phobia Forum. Thanks to the admins for approving this. This is a forum for people to discuss the things that scare the bejesus out of them. This is a broad topic. It ranges from arachnophobia to things like social anxiety disorder. Feel free to come here and share your fears with others who may be able to offer some insight or advice.

I will try to provide helpful links when I get the chance. This is hopefully going to be a place where people can come for support and help with their phobias without being judged. I want this forum to highlight the fact that phobias can be a serious issue for some people and maybe we can bring about a little more insight and understanding, maybe even help a few people to overcome their fears.

Same rules apply here as everywhere else really so be sensible and don't post anything stupid.

There is no free speech here!

    Advertising
    - Topics/posts that contain this will be both edited and locked. If you wish to buy add space, contact advert@boards.ie .

    Flaming
    - Posts containing personal attacks on another user will be edited/deleted.

    Spamming
    - Posts that are just complete nonsense will be deleted. This includes "Woot! I've 1000 posts" posts and threads.

    Off Topic
    - Posts that stray off topic will be edited/deleted, depending on their relevance to the topic at hand. People who ignore a moderator's request to stay on topic will be banned for a week.

    Personal Abuse
    - Posters who abuse others on here will be banned. Permanent bans will be handed out on a first offence if a moderator feels it is warranted. There is no argument on this one. Abuse someone and you will be banned. Calling someone an idiot is abuse. Don't attack the poster, attack the post. Posting PM's publicly without consent could be met with harsh consequences, especially if they do not have any place in the discussion.

    Porn
    - No porn allowed!

    Drugs
    - A lot of people tend to suggest the use of drugs when it comes to things like fear of flying etc. This is not a medical forum and the majority of you are not doctors so please refrain from suggestions like this.

    Txtspk
    - Please do not abbreviate things like this. Very irritating and hard to read. It won't be tolerated.

    Phone Numbers
    - Please do not post your own or anyone else's number publically.

    Arguing with a moderator
    - Do not argue with a moderator in a thread after they have given a warning or a ban etc. If you have an issue with a moderator's action then PM the mod in question. They will discuss it with you. You can then, if unsatisfied with the PM route, take things to Feedback.

    Scaring People
    - A lot of people who will be posting here have very real and sometimes severe phobias. It is a sensitive subject for many of them and anyone who sets out to deliberately scare people will be banned. This includes posting pictures of things that might frighten people without giving adequate warning first. If you are posting photos of spiders, rats etc. for example, say so in the thread title or above your link.

That's it for now but I'll probably be adding things in the future.

    Happy posting!

While we encourage discussion on the various ways of treating phobias, we often also get requests for recommendations for professionals in particular geographical areas.

We cannot give specific professional recommendations - you should choose a therapist based on how well YOU get on with them not how well someone else does & any thread asking for recommendations will be locked.

There is an excellent thread in the Psychology Forum on how to go about finding a counsellor, therapist or psychologist for yourself HERE which we recommend you read instead.
