    Anyone here use Yahoo!?

How is Yahoo! still in existence? Once upon a time it was the darling of the internet, it was the favorite search engine (it's true!), but suddenly people just stopped using it. The funny thing is it's not hard to see why. Compared to Google and Bing it looks and feels almost the same as it did in 2005.

    For the uninitiated...

Looks like the days are numbered. Be sad to see it go for posterity but they seemed to just be too lazy to keep up.

The CEO is alright though ;) Even though i'd imagine she'll be removed in the not too distant future. Not that it will matter cause imo the brand is damaged goods.

Yahoo is the Bing of search engines, which was in return the Myspace of Search Engines.

Yahoo radio was a great service, I used to use it constantly, it was terrible until you rated about 100-200 tracks but after that point it would play some great music and help you find new music all the time.
Sad it died, it was well ahead of its time

It always just seemed oddly put together. Just didnt work well. Was great in the early days for free/porn/dating email addresses, but times have moved on.

Well Yahoo employs about 400+ people in Ireland, maybe more. So hopefully for their sake it will stick around a good while longer. Search is one of it's smaller products. It's huge in the US, UK, France, Japan, Australia, Brazil, etc etc.

Myer pulled the company out of the shítter, just take a look at the share prices. It's still not perfect and Myer may not have what it takes to put the company on track. It's not a poor reflection on the woman or her skills, shareholders just want to see 2000 share prices tomorrow, and that's not going to happen. It could take some years to get the company to where they want it, and that's if it ever happens. Worldwide, Yahoo is in the top 10 websites in the world, a pretty big feat. Yahoo have some great products, I for one love Flickr :)

    I don't get it. :/

I used to love Yahoo Answers though. Got loads of points by answering questions like "Why does my head hurt after banging it off a wall for three hours?".

So if you still use Yahoo! you're at risk of dying?

My main e-mail address is with Yahoo! It's actually @yahoo.ca even though I've never been to Canada or have any links to the place. I set it up in 1999, I think.

Just seems to me like they took a long, hard look at what everyone liked best about Yahoo. Then started systematically stripping away those aspects.

I dropped Messenger, the moment I worked out that they'd done away with the audible alerts to incoming email.

Yahoo weather and sport are great. They seem to be doing some great bits/apps but I can't understand why their home pages are so crap, seem to be mostly daily mail level articles - maybe thats the level they are aiming for.

    Yahoo mail is excellent.

do they still wipe out all your emails if you do not log on for a while? This is why I went off yahoo and hotmail. I snapped up gmail addresses for my family when it first came out and some only got around to using them a year or so ago.

I see yahoo give 1TB of free storage. My gmail is finally filling up to its 15GB limit.
