Over the last few years, a few of us on www.openstreetmap.org have been mapping electricity infractructure under the key power=*, where * can be any value, but should come from a preferred list.

From http://stat.latlon.org/ie/latest/tags-p.html (consolidates the list of keys and values in use and how many instance of each). The following are the electricity-related keys.

key value Number of Instances (All Island) km (ROI only)

    power * 210,803
    power border 3
    power cable 75 225
    power cable_distribution_cabinet 60
    power capacitor 1
    power compensator 4
    power connection 4
    power construction 1
    power converter 1
    power disused:line 2
    power disused:minor_line 1
    power generator 2,608
    power junction chamber 1

    power:abandoned plant 17
    power:abandoned substation 1
    power:disused * 3
    power:disused generator 2
    power:disused plant 1
    power_supply * 33
    power_supply bs_1363 1
    power_supply cee_7_4 1
    power_supply line 1
    power_supply nema_5_15 1
    power_supply no 2
    power_supply yes 27
    amenity charging_station 423

Map of power plants http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/TIR If nothing shows, click 'Run'. May not work on some devices.

There is a dedicated infrastructure site here: https://openinframap.org/#5.7/53.77/-6.565 Zoom in and you can see more details.

What have you been putting the map together ?

There are many functions in OpenStreetMap. While it started of as a street map, pretty much any fixed feature can be mapped within it. Mapping the power system can help people understand it. It also provides a publicly-accessible record of what is (and sometimes was) there.

It also keeps me busy and out of trouble. :)

Is there any information on the locations of 5G masts and other supporting infrastructure on it?

Site viewer and cellmapper would provide that already though some sites are on OSM too.

I'm not aware of any mapping of masts by generation. Many masts probably have multiple types of equipment of multiple generations.

This is a map of about 2,500 masts (no enclosed space) and towers (enclosed space), regardless of construction or use. It doesn't include standalone antennae, e.g. fixed to the face of a building. Sites and buildings may have been mapped in some cases.

http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/TJf - it may take a moment to load.

I'm just thinking it should stay that way. If 5g infrastructure was mapped then the maps could serve as a very handy target finder for any groups who are contemplating campaigns of arson attacks against 5G facilities.

Fair enough. It’s just I have all the information available to me through a GIS system , was wondering why anybody outside would need it.

5G doesn’t really need masts, sure where there is an existing one they may reuse it. But because the wave length is shorter it travels less and you need many times more base stations. But as a result they need less. They are also much smaller. And can placed in less obvious places, you never know where you could walk over one. ;)

Some of them are off by hundreds of metres.
