There are few videos on YouTube showing melted head light cover. I think there is a reason why it's not approved by NCT.
And it's not straight forward to switch bulbs in my car.

However I appreciate your guidance and sharing your personal experience.

Any link to those youtube videos you are talking about would be helpful. I have not come across any of them. Projector headlights seem fine with LEDs as the beam pattern seems mostly the same as halogens, but reflector housing is probably a problem for the NCT. As most of the cars on irish roads still have reflector housing.

Been looking around for Philips Xtreme 130%, good reviews for it. It comes in H1 and H7. They are in the range of 30euros each.
Any guess which one works for Mercedes? H1 or H7?

Having tried all sorts of bulbs including the terrible Chinese xenon kits, I did try many of the extra range types including Phillips bulbs but they didn’t last very long, the very best I found was the Osram Nightbreaker bulbs, H7 in my case , much better light and they did last pretty well in a taxi that’s on the road 6 nights a week.
If you can fit the bulbs your self, don’t touch the glass part of the bulb as it seems this is the cause of early failure , also, it’s been recommended to me that after fitting the new headlight bulbs that they should be left turned on for the first time for 10/15 minutes , supposedly this conditions the bulb long term use

Osram night breaker seems to be the safest option for me.

I am surprised that modern vehicles don't come with minimum projector headlights(halogen just doesn't cut it anymore). My current car has Xenons, and the brightness compared to the OH halogen Renault Laguna is night and day(pardon the pun). Even on my old Audi A4 which has projectors, it was simple to fit a HID kit for extra brightness.
