Hi all, we bought our motorhome from Donnaghys in Letterkenney. We always take her back to them in early December for Service and Habitation check and CVRT test. We live in County Wexford, so do it as a three day trip. Our CVRT runs out on 23rd December. There is no where in County Wexford that services Motorhomes ( that I am aware of ). Under level 3 Covid restrictions if we go to that in December, will we have a reasonable excuse to drive from Wexford to Letterkenney to get CVRT and service done. Or are we stuffed.

Please note however that any vehicle with a valid Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW) on or after 28 March 2020 has had their next test due date extended by 3 months. The RSA will not be issuing revised CRWs for these vehicles but you can check the new CRW expiry date/test due date online...

Regardless of the extension, a 3 day trip to get a motorhome serviced isn't a reasonable excuse.

Any test center should be able to do the CVRT test it's not motorhome specific. I've no clue about the habitation check, but there must be somewhere.

Roadworthiness and habitation tests/checks are totally unrelated and can be each done by their respective specialists.
Any CVRT testing centre can do the CVRT test, they all work to the same testing manual as issued by The RSA so there is no requirement to use any particular CVRT test centre.
As for habitation test, once out of any warrantee periods, any competent motorhome dealer can do that work, but be careful to select a well recommended operator as there are some shysters out there.

As mentioned by Augeo check the date on your current disk and add three months to find the new date on which the test is due and remember you can get the test done at any time up to 30 days in advance of the due date without affecting the next due date.

Hi all thanks for replies, i know o could go to my nearest test centre, but if the van fails and something mechanical needs doing, then I have no where near us where I could take it. I don't know of any reputable motorhome service centres in Wexford. Unless someone can recommend somewhere

Do that, see if it fails before worrying about what happens if it fails. Also, has the expiry date not been extended by 3 months?

For the CVRT, imo you don’t really need a motorhome service centre specifically, what you need is a van service centre. Even a regular mechanic could do the servicing but generally they don’t have the vertical height or lift weight capacity to elevate your motorhome for checks. Ask around though, some of them might be capable of it depending on the weight and height of your motorhome (I went to a car mechanic in Blackrock, Co Dublin who was able to service my VW T5).

Either way though, a van service centre should definitely be capable of doing it.

You can check the current CVRT status of your vehicle here:

If the motorhome fails the test it's on something mechanical and nothing to do with the habitation area. Any good mechanic should be able to do the necessary work to get it up to test standards. If you live anywhere near Wexford town I could recommend a good mechanic who's also a motorhome owner.

As said, if there is a mechanical issue (CVRT fail for example) take it to your nearest reputable service centre for the make of the base vehicle or any recommended general garage.
Whether it's a FIAT, Ford, Renault or Merc or whatever there is surely a garage in Wexford which is well used to looking after the commercial vans of the area.

Well took her to our local CVRT test centre in New Ross, and she passed, so got two year ticket as she is 10 years old on 24th December, so thanks for advice folks
