Why is the Sandy Hook conspiracy strong?

I remember being in 3rd year and watching the events on December 2012. Then the news of Alex Jones denying the event which started the chain reaction of social media sites trying to ban conspiracy videos.

Going back to Sandy Hook, why of all mass shooting is this one hard to accept for some people as just a lone nut 19yr old autistic gunman who shot up kids? Even going on official CNN videos on YouTube, the comment section is inundated with conspiracy theories.

What agenda do conspiracy theorists believe Sandy Hook was to further?

Attention seeking. People thinking that they are part of a group that knows the real story. The most important thing is that even when proved wrong is to not admit it bit double down and roll it into the next conspiracy.

Gun control. It also happened at a time when Youtube was really taking off. Conspiracy videos are highly manipulative by design, which can have quite a potent impact on viewers who don't know any better or lack basic critical thinking

Just about every major shooting and attack has had the same treatment; 911, 7/7, Boston bombing, Aurora shooting, Charlie Hebdo, Las Vegas shooting, New Zealand attacks, etc, etc

It's always the same technique - cast doubt on the event by any means necessary in order to dilute the truth/facts, putting the "official story" on the same level as vague conspiracy theories. Can be very effective as most of us have seen.

Its a political thing. If you can get people to buy into conspiracy, they become part of a group and that can be turned into a voting block.

Or a certain type of person is just attracted to conspiracy stuff. The same way there are people who want to believe in Bigfoot, Loch Ness monster, flat earth.
