    What a week.

Power Window motor let go again so found a new replacement motor.

Later that week the Speedo started to drop out then finally a brake line let go
This is a result of the line being held in with a cable tie instead of a proper brake clips. Another bodge job from previous owner.

So I had my ozzy MOT and i spent the entire day having hard lines made up and collecting braided lines.
Then a 4pm i found a nail in the tyre. With test at 8am the next day.

I also fitted a heat shield for the pod filter.

Ok new years big order time.

I have so underestimated the timeline and cost at this stage i don't want to do the math.
If an rb25 S14 was the cheaper swap a Rb26 must be a killer.

Here is the product list just to service the motor and get the gearbox on.
It is by no means compete as I need more bits just to run the engine.

So that is my budget spent this month.

So I was going to put the gearbox clutch and box on the motor.

Then I lost my marbles and spent 4 hours sanding the box up with 80 Grit to spray it up tomorrow.

This is a hateful job but you could eat your lunch off it now.

It'll be worth it! If you're ever bored and back in Ireland give me a shout! You can do the gearbox for my Samurai :pac:

Amm sureee...... Id am love to help if you have a rotary tool with sanding disks..

I did that by hand and I still have the engine block looking at me.
I could lie to myself and say ill just do the rocker covers

    Good news.
I'm old and so 8kg /6kg Springs have to go.

This car is a road car and the road conditions in my area mean i actually drive slower and have less feel due to rough roads.

Don't get me wrong the car handles like a go kart but can feel like one two in terms of comfort.

So I hunted down a set of S-Tunes 5kg 4kg which should do the job of making the car more friendly as a daily.

    photo_2016-01-28_09-08-16.jpg

So in the next few weeks I'll swap these in and i'm on a wait list for Gktech anti roll bars which will take out any sloppy roll.

    Came out ok.
    Happy with that.

Block next, also that black bracket will be replaced with the s14 one so not worried about overspray.

I should be able to Mock up the engine this month and tidy up.

Lets see what bits i forgot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭JimmyCrackCorn

Last of the parts turning up.
Got a second hand dump pipe that needed to be re-welded.

My first flange, looks like Ray Charles welded it but happy out.
It's passable enough ill give the WasteGate a go.

Wrong Vband Size ebay it goes.

Bought Pipe and V-bands to weld up my own.

    Progress Update.

I should really make a list but I don't really want to know.

    50mm Gate and 1000cc injectors.

    20160224_155326.jpg

Vband adapters and pipe to plumb the gate and make a fresh Exhaust.

    20160225_123211.jpg

Cross Member got tidied up. Wasn't going to do this but it got out of hand.

    20160227_140643.jpg
    20160227_153855.jpg

    Temp Sensor fitted for Clocks.

    20160227_141208.jpg

Changed injector plugs to match the Bosch injectors.

Then spotted there is no serial port wired into the ECU plug to map the ECU
    Funk!

    20160227_231906.jpg

Spigot Bush removal. Tried to drill it out but its being difficult....
Dremel or removal tool would have saved me time.

Sliced myself open rushing an Oil change + 4 stitches.

Got the wrong welding wire so only got this far on exhaust work.

EGT bung and waste gate Flange. Not very pretty but will work well.

Went to make the Waste-gate outlet to dump pipe and made a balls of it.
Will have to re-make it and not cut it too short.

But seeing it on the motor made me smile.
Aircon will need a heat shield and some fancy plumbing.

Fitted S-tunes and removed spigot Bush from Rb25 auto engine.
Will get the gearbox on this week.

Going From 8Kg springs to 5Kg is a huge difference in comfort. The car is so much nicer to drive and even at 5kg its stiff.

There is some roll but just enough to transfer weight. I could argue it is better as I can transfer weight around and the rear end doesn't bounce/skip about when it hits bumps.

Ah crap JCC. :( New bumper time, or is it repairable?

TBH I love in fear of some dozy fool with a prescription windscreen and brain in neutral hitting me like that.

:( rotten luck. Looks like it might be fixable without a replacement? Hopefully.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭JimmyCrackCorn

    Fiberglass and spray.

Looks like the engine swap is locked in for last week of May.
So some serious shed time over the next month to mock it up and get it done.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭JimmyCrackCorn

So I got a day on the weekend to make progress.
I really should just bolt on the gearbox instead of tidying up the block, but its now or never.

I had to strip the rocker cover after.
I went to spray another coat and it reacted when cleaning. You live you lean and I used a fair bit of bad language.

Looking good JCC. Fair play to you for the results you're getting painting in situ.
I used a fair bit of bad language.

Hopefully I have planned well enough I can get it rolling under its own power.

Also starting to think that i might scare myself with too much power.

Will look better when polished and finished.
Really happy with the outcome so far.

Should be reliable and help with decent flow and boost control on a big turbo turned down to 14psi initially.

Ill get a better photo of the engine now it has dried as I left it alone Saturday.
