I have just taken possession of my grandfather's pocket watch (half hunter) . It would be in need of service/repair. I am looking for recommendations of a good reputable watch repair specialist. Any help appreciated. I live in Meath but I'm open to travel. Thanks.

There's this chap who has gotten very good reviews. Based in the midlands IIRC. https://thevintagewatch.net/ but the site is returning a database error. Hopefully a temporary thing. There's also https://watchfix.ie/watch-service-dublin/ based in Dublin. I don't know if they do pocketwatches and for such a large outfit I don't know anybody who has had a service with them. Maybe someone here has?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

John Donohoe is the guy at thevintagewach.net

    His email is/was wordpress@thevintagewatch.net

A little pricey but got a couple of old watches sorted out for me.

ive had some work down with chris at watchfix. Pretty solid experience. He will take items by post and send back. His office is a little awkward to get to in town.

If you don't mind me asking M, what were Watchfix's ballpark prices for a service?

    (thevintagewach.net is up again)

I brought an old watch to John in Kilkenny a couple of years ago. I didn't think he was expensive for the repair and service my watch needed. He also gave me good advice on selling the watch.

Got this information from Chris a few days ago:
"Service on an automatic watch starts at €280 and polish start at €100"
