Benildus 5-3 Rathmines. A few lucky breaks went our way, but I guess we were overdue some of that this season.

Exams hit Trinity and ourselves hard. Just 3 regulars for us, 3 subs and 2 scratches.

    Bray 6.5-1.5 Gonzaga B
Kilkenny 3-4 Gonzaga A - Keogh vs Jackson to play.

    Dublin U v Ballinasloe,,, score?

Has the round 4 game (board 1) between Dublin & Balbriggan been played yet?
It seems to be holding up the FIDE ratings!

It should be scored as 0-0 . It is ridiculous that it has dragged on this long.

With Gonzaga A next up and Ballinasloe exceeding expectations, is it looking increasingly likely that Trinity's long spell in the Armstrong is coming to an end?

You'd wonder what'd happen the club if they do go down.

It is difficult to manage a university team. Without an exceptional captain, most university teams seem to flounder.

At Armstrong level, in particular. The problem I saw at my university club back in the day is the lack of continuity. You can have a great captain, and then when he or she graduates, you roll the dice to see whether or not you can find an adequate replacement. Sooner or later, you can't. Meanwhile, even the biggest clubs tend to rely on a handful of people to carry most of the water, but they tend to stick around for decades instead of a few years like at university. Probably the only way for the university clubs to be really stable in the long run is if there's excellent staff buy-in.

EDIT: I should say, I don't know TCD's current situation, and it may be turnover of players as much as admins in this case - I should be careful not to presume!

The relegation issue is far from clear with none of the bottom six teams safe. The league table always has a lopsided look depending on who has played against Gonzaga A and Elm Mount yet and who hasn't. Also some clubs have problems fielding anything near their first team when they have to travel to places like Ballinasloe and Kilkenny.

Bray have it in the bag now. They will win it in the final round. Gonzaga and ElmMount will get 2nd and 3rd but hard to tell in which order. Main thing is to get the bad results out of the way and then have a good run in for the last 4 rounds.

    Blanchardstown 0 Rathmines 6
2 boards being played on Monday evening.
A very good afternoon for us.

Balbriggan 3-4 Gonzaga B. One to play midweek

Gonzaga A 6-1 Trinity. TCD didn’t have a board one and were missing two others. 3-2 on the boards that were played.

It looks like there is a rather large hole in that bag:pac:

Yes indeed there is no denying it, fair comment. Looks like the entire bottom has fallen out and Bray will now be doing well to stay up this year. The cavalry never arrived and the team struggles to put it's best foot forward.

Kilkenny were just too strong on the day and are surely contenders now themselves. Nobody has it in the bag just yet!
