Just got around to listening to last Wednesday night's broadcast of Jazz Alley (30/12/2015) with Donald Helm on Lyric FM and was shocked to hear it was the last broadcast - ever!

Maybe it's just me and I missed it, but this has come as a complete surprise to me and quite the downer, as I'd only just managed to find a way to hear the show on a regular basis again recently -- recording from satellite -- since it moved to only Wednesdays, about, what, 5 years ago?

I've not been able to find any reason for this on the RTE website so just wondering if anyone knows why the show has been canned?

Seems to have been a random decision .... some murmurings over on the Lyric FM Facebook page but still no reason I can find. Presumably, as a Jazz Alley listener I'm a dying breed, or perhaps some suit in RTE is retiring and somebody's got to make savings elsewhere to pay for the pension.

Anyone have any suggestions for an alternative -- not in range of Dublin stations but internet/satellite (Astra)?

Blowing my own trumpet here I know but Jazz Mine on dublincityfm.ie Saturdays 5 to 6PM might be to your liking. If you do listen in any feedback would be much appreciated. A listen back option at Mixcloud.com ( Search Sean Brophy for the archive. )

Hopefully Lyric FM might reconsider their decision re all the specialist shows recently canned.

    Petition signed.

Loved this driving home on a boring midweek evening. Helm is a real DJ in the old style - i.e. turning you on to something you would never have discovered yourself.

Always had the back stories for the music.
