This is strange? - or could this be normal. Our area. out of all the plethora of (green) 'live' one house is 'planned' (blue house) - oh and the live ones are all FTTC . (well at the moment)

This is from https://fibrerollout.ie/rollout-map updated february 2019 apparently

Thats because they were listed nearly live at some point and then they made a mess of it.

be gutted to be in that situation like that, all your neighbours around you getting FTTH and your house just marked down in the middle of them as just 'planned'

He has FTTH. That map is irrelevant really. It gives an indication but it is in no way absolutely reliable as to the availability of FTTH. open eir seem to have abandoned it yet again, the last update was at the beginning of February.

It is generally just a database issue. A decent provider who cares can sort these issues. Gonzo was clued up enough to sort it himself.

So after 5 long years fibre went live at the end of last month. I had an install scheduled on the 1st of April but when they came out they couldn't bring the fibre from pole A (opposite neighbour) to Pole B (opposite our house). They said something like underground duct blocked and they'd send someone out to get it going. 4 weeks later and still no sign. Seemed too good to be true :(

    Did you say April 1st?

ring Eir or Airwire and explain your situation, take note of the black dp box on pole nearest your home, write down the serial number of it (should be easily readable with a yellow sticker), your phone number details etc and it should be sorted.

The fibre cable has finally reached my gate. I was always worried they’d leave me out for some reason. Now to convince myself that they won’t connect it so I can worry some more. It must be agony for those unlucky enough to be waiting on the NBP.

thanks for that - yeah thats not my house that one marked blue (planned) BTW .. I am one of the green 'live' (apparently) which would indicate our house is fibre live, which of course to split hairs its not real fibre live as in FTTH its FTTC live (but then thats fibre to the cabinet and then the rest copper, so can you 'really' really call it fibre??? ) - and at 7mps download .. er no thanks, I am getting more speed by fixed dish/microwave or whatever it is .

Yeah I have that yellow sticker of the DP outside my house on my hard drive somewhere. Got a camcorder with a really good zoom and zoomed into it from ground level.

Airwire have a good reputation from people on here and for updating their database so I am going to keep an eye on that now over the next coming weeks now that new box (OLT?) has been installed yesterday in our village and see what happens - my eircode is at 'coming soon' stage on the airwire eircode ckecker , they update it every tuesday I think. as far as getting in touch with Eir , i would say thats a no go .. I have tried OE by private twitter and fibrepower by email but never even get a reply, so I think airwire checker most probably the best way to keep an eye on it.

Looks like Eir have moved into my home area! Are they currently slinging the fibre between poles in addition to the old line? I don't remember seeing two cables last weekend.

Yes. The fibre is usually the thinnest cable towards the top of the poles.

Think what Andy is on about is a rsu road side unit
A mini exchange of sorts usually a daughter exchange of a bigger one. Big white and drones
Don't think they have anything at all to do with ftth

That's his "exchange" there. Since that picture was taken a VDSL cab was installed several months ago now a new cabinet has been installed in the past few days. Since his exchange area has been FTTH cabled for months but not yet live I think it is a fair assumption to think that the new cabinet is related to FTTH. As I said earlier I suspect it's purpose is to house the OLT.

You don't know how good that actually sounds to hear that. For once in a long time now I feel hopeful that its just around the corner now and I shall have ftth very soon :)

My FTTH connection went down over the weekend thanks to the storm. It's coming in overhead so I'm not too surprised. The LOS light on the ONT is flashing red. My ISP is eir. What's my best bet of getting back online asap? Do I have to call eir and get then to get on to openEir or can I call openEir directly to report the fault? Cheer!

You can not engage with OpenEIR. They only deal with providers.

You always need to engage with your provider (in this case Eir). And it won't get fixed unless you do, if it's only your line.

How far are you from the exchange? If you are not far VDSL will be a better service than Imagine.

Dont post the same query in multiple threads.

    2.

FTTH is not you, so this isnt the thread.

New poles erected and phone line repaired last Thursday.Mount bracket for DP box erected on pole today.Fibre cable run of about 200 meters will have to be replaced and spliced.Seems fibre line repairs are much slower than old copper lines.Feels like waiting for ftth rollout to arrive all over again😡

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,714 ✭✭✭✭Andy From Sligo

Still no ftth for me today ... Maybe next Tuesday my prince will come :) ...

  • Registered Users Posts: 966 ✭✭✭medoc

As a matter of interest what’s the procedure for completing an area? We now have the fibre run on the poles. What’s next, do they place all the black boxes on the poles in one go and come back and splice? Or install the box and splice at the same time? How long generally does it take to connect each box?

They would be copper lines are find broken bit attach new cable and recrimp pairs done and dusted fibre cable requires a specialised team to splice dozens of pairs on each side correctly pair them and fuse them then check each one for issues on a very in demand crew who have a target to complete. I do fibre but even I couldn't fix a downed network it's a whole other area of work with less crews.
