Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Landcruiser or Pajero?

    Looking at these two from about 2003 - 2008 ish range. €7-8k budget max preferably cheaper . I realise a lot of these will be high mileage and had hard lives. Has anyone experience of either of these , common problems, what to watch for when viewing, etc.

    Landcruiser,
    Rust, rust, and more rust.
    Check the chassis rails very carefully.
    If they weren't Dinitrol'd from near new, you could be basically rebuilding the side rails from scratch.
    Otherwise, injectors seem to be the biggest bug-bear.
    That and the price....

    They hold their value well thats for sure. Can you tell .e more about the injectors , replacement every 100k ?

    They suffered from injector seals leaking, and contaminating the sump oil.
    This seems tohave caused clogging of the oil pick up filter and lead to oil starvation.
    I'd imagine most 03 to 08 would have had them changed at least once by now.
    Lots of this age will be for sale with 200,000+ miles on the clock.

    Pajero 3.2 is a great machine but suffer from fuel pump issues and switches in the transfer box give troubles (flashing green indicator lights). switches are cheap but fuel pumps are not.

    Discovery 3 could be an option at this price too im thinking.

    My old o6 cruiser is rust free, no treatment...spent 2k few years ago with the diesel specialist lads in cashel, who did a pretty good job on injectors, cold start, glow plugs and the rest...car goes well since. I spend a few quid every year getting it through the test..we do a bit of heavy pulling.
    Pajero is a cheaper option, but they can’t hack the miles or hard life..
    Cruiser is lovely old thing when it’s going well..
